How do you guys feel about China copies?

A couple hundred? I've spent about $1,700 in the last month. Pfft.

A partial selection:

Delica Ladybug (5).jpgI think the best deals around are used knives on this website or some of the other auction sites. You can probably find a quality product for the same price as the one being shipped from overseas. Don't lots of US knife manufacturers get their blades from Japan, etc.? Is that a problem?

Japan isn't a problem, but you won't see the CPM steels coming from there. Which is not to say that they don't have some damned good ones of their own. They're just not typically used on production knives.

They're also not in the habit of ripping-off other peoples' designs. Mostly.

That's kinda sad, actually. For that same $14, you could have bought a knife with some integrity.

Also made in China, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And it's backed by Kershaw, who nobody can say anything bad about.

I could have bought that, but it's a pug-fugly little plastic liner lock, so it doesn't really interest me. :barf:

No, I'm pretty happy with my $14 flat-ground G10/440C axis lock with rock solid lockup. I'll leave the rest of you to worry about the 'integrity' of my knives. Even if it turns out to be made of the same chinese pot metal that the rest of them are made of, it'll still be on par with the 8cr13MoV crowd. Hell, even if it falls apart tomorrow, who cares? It cost less than a movie and popcorn.

I have a tough time believing that the fit and finish and heat treat are even remotely on par with the originals. I've bought a lot of chinese copies in my time, and they've all failed. Quality control isn't something that seems to get much attention in China.

I'm somewhat on the fence about this. It's kinda on par with pirating movies, in my book. I know some people who abuse it, but I know others who will download a movie, and then buy it when it comes to stores if it turns out to be a decent movie. They buy WAY more movies than they otherwise would, and the people who make quality movies get rewarded. Is it theft? Pretty much. Does it end up benefiting the movie industry? It certainly could. I'd venture to say the same holds true here--to a point. I could imagine buying a copy of a knife, discovering that I like the design, and then buying the original. In the case of a knife, however, I'd prefer that it be a licensed copy. For instance, Meyerco has a lot of Darrel Ralph designs at a fraction of the price. I could see someone buying a Maxx-Q, and then buying a Gun Hammer. Shameless copies that don't benefit the owner of the design in any way really rub me the wrong way.

I blame American, consumers and companies for outsourcing jobs. Americans want things cheap, and companies are all about making as much money as they can. These Chinese knife factories would not even be around if there was not a demand for their product. You say they shamelessly rip off knife makers and that is true, however they are also exploited by bigger American companies that contract them to make knives cheaply. A company that probably pays them about $2-$10USD per knife and then resells that same knife in America for $30-$200USD. I try to buy an american version of a knife when I can, but this does not mean that chinese/taiwan knives are all low quality.

Im just saying "you reap what you sow".

Curious where these photos came from?

They are floating around on several websites and guns.ru there are also pictures of the crates they come in. Apparently they are the real deal, the maker also makes one off customs in different steels like RWL-34, S90v, and others.

I love threads like this, it makes it easy to suss out members that have no morals or integrity, and are usually in a deep state of denial.

A couple years ago CRK had a colab with CRKT on a plastic handled Sebenza. They deal didn't work out but a few hundred knives were produced. I'm still on the lookout for one to go with my real Sebenza. Keep an eye out, you might just come across one before I do, then you'll have a REAL, albeit cheap (apparently the main idea here), Sebenza.

I lol'd. I was just thinking how easy it was to spot the whiny elitist d-bags and the fat office workers in this thread... ;)

theres a difference between an elitist and someone who doesnt waste their money on junk.

and fyi, i lay brick and block for a living. no fat desk jockey here

The owner doesn't define the integrity of the knife.

It's the other way around....

What you, Samael, and a few others are doing is nothing more than whining and trying to tell other people how to spend their money. That's not just 'not wasting your money on junk', that's being an elitist d-bag.

"Wah wah don't buy that SRM 710 it's a knockoff of a Sebenza! You need to drop a half grand on the original Sebenza or you can't be one of the cool kids! You're a horrible person if you don't give Chris Reeve all of your money!"

"This is me giving a fudge. I spend my money on what I want. Suck it up, buttercup."
