I m new fan of Buck knifes.

Wow, that's a long, heavy bullet if I'm converting my grams to grains correctly.

I get about 210 grains, which seems to fit with the velocity you mention. Do you always use such heavy bullets, or is that just for moose, I mean elk?

Common wisdom here is that about 11 grams is the most efficient weight and nothing more than 11.7 is really needed, even for heavy game.

13,7 grammes it is special hunting bullet for big game Elk (moose) and bear.
There are bullets 11,7 grammes for deer ,for small deer.
There are bullets 9,7 grammes for snaiping or for wolf .

"small deer" I mean roe roebuck Siberian Roe Deer

Shot it at night.

I wish we could hunt our whitetail deer at night here. The real big bucks have become almost totally nocturnal and it is extremely rare that they show themselves in legal shooting light.

Most big ones are taken by those who push the legal shooting light laws a little more than they should.......basically taking them just after darkness or just before light.

Ok, that seems good. And I was speaking from my 30-06 mindset, so I can see how the 7.62X54 might work better with the weights you mention.

I agree with your assessment of the various game meats.......boar would be my first choice and bear would be my last choice.

Interesting discussion, thanks.

We are living in very different countries.
At us for example it is forbidden shortly trunk weapon, as revolvers and pistols.
It is possible only for militia.
And at you night hunting is forbidden, at us night hunting is resolved.
Pistols and revolvers are normal citizen weapon in USA,but in Russia they are illegal.

BG42, Yes, our American Bullet mfg. don't make a 210gr. for that caliber . We'd most likely use the 180gr. (11.67 grams) bullet, some may use the 200gr. (12.96 grams) . DM

Interesting.

What are your laws like for carrying knives?

Here many cities make longer blade lengths illegal to carry in that city.

Many here have permits to carry handguns.

Thanks, David.......(The Metric System drives me crazy).

bullet 13,7 grammes Velocity 715 m/sec
bullet 11,7 grammes Velocity 760 m/sec
bullet 9,7 grammes Velocity 795 m/sec
Sorry I have info only in metric system.
All velocity are approximately , only for info.
I dont have a chronograph.
Thank you too for the discussion.

Russian 7,62 x 51 is identical to the NATO .308 Win.
The cartridges are interchangeable.

In Russia it is possible to carry folding knifes, with long edges less to 150 millimeters (mm) of length.
But forbidden to use it as weapon.
Are legal Automatic knifes with edges less to 90 mm.
The assisted opener is legal with long edges less to 150 millimeters (mm) of edge length.
Edge clamps are resolved on all folding knifes less to 150 mm of edge lenght.
Is forbidden folding knifes with two cutting edges on two parties of an edge at edges more than 90 mm. Less 90 mm are legal.False edge is legal.
Is forbidden folding daggers with an edge from 90 and more mm of length. Less 90 mm are legal.

With fixed blade is other situation .
You must to do special sertification in Militia department about is it cold steel ( weapon ) or not.
But if you have license for shotgun or for rifle it means that you can be owner of cold stell (cold weapon). But you must use it only in special conditions.

As I see all are pleasant to a photo with knives.
Then still I will add a photo with knives.
Excuse me for these knives are not Buck knives.
When I will test Buck knives on hunting or fishing I will necessarily add the report with photos.

Great pics.

Got to tell you this, since it's so much a part of the discussion.

One knife is a knife......two of them would be knives. In other words, "knives" is the plural form always.

That's an essential one for this forum, but I'm hoping you won't mind me offering a few helps like that. I can see that you are searching for words and proper phrasing.

Here's another:

You wrote:

Russian 7,62 x 51 is full analog of NATO .308 Win.
You can use the cartidges each in others.

Here's some alternate phrasing using more common American forms and phrasing.

The Russian 7.62X51 is identical to the NATO .308 Win.
The cartridges are interchangeable.

Here's another. A ballistic calculator would be a chronograph.

Here's another. There's a guy called 334Dave that posts here. Whatever you do......don't write like him.

;)

Dave knows that I'm just joking with him. His writing is a source of some considerable quantity of humor here.

Oh, and thanks for the knife laws.

It's fascinating to compare our laws and I'm sure many others will be interested as well.

Gun and knife restrictions are of great importance to many here.

Use 3.275 to convert m/sec to feet/sec..
Ex. 715X3.275=2341.6fps
So, your cartridge pushes a 180gr. bullet near 2500fps whereas the 30-06, drives it 2850-2900fps.. Many hunters here do not think this is enough and would opt for the more powerful magnums pushing that bullet at 3100fps (947m/sec). DM

Dear BG42EDGE
Thanks you very much for your help.
It is good that you help me to correct my errors.
As I am Russian, it is difficult to me to write and understand correctly.
I learnt my English independently, without teachers, only with books and a CD disk.

The humour is the good thing very useful.
I think that I understand humour and I possess sense of humour.
Please do not hesitate to joke even over me.:)
I m not the sensitive person.:)

OK thanks.
You are right, 30-06 is stronger calibre than 7,62 x 54 R.
The magnum calibres is even stronger.
But in Russia the weapon of a magnum calibres is not made.
American magnum weapon and cartridges for it cost very expensively.
For example a cartridge .300 Win Mag has the price approximately $12- $15 for one piece.
Rifle .300 Win Mag Remington 700 has the price approximately $4000 - $5000 for one piece.

Believe me, I admire your ability to write in two difficult languages.

I do ONE fairly well and that's quite enough for me to manage.
