I need another Mnandi thread to read.

What's that one on the bottom in your picture with the decorated pin, Lisa?

Question for those of you with the GORGEOUS ivory ones: Does the mammoth ivory shrink and swell with the seasons, or is it more stable and static?

I’ll take a stab at this one – giraffe bone’s my guess.

Does the mammoth ivory shrink and swell with the seasons, or is it more stable and static?
I’ve been EDCing my MI Mnandi for several years now, in a state with moderately broad temperature swings (Idaho). The knife has also seen wide humidity cycles on occasion (including condensing – sweat, snow, and the wash :o). I’ve noticed no shrinking and swelling to the naked eye.

After receiving a tip about also giving the smaller CRK a try from the poster above me, I decided to splurge for one.

Nothing fancy, just a lefties version in Snakewood.

Thanks for the tip, I'm liking this little thing:)

That is a beautiful snakewood! I hope you grow to love it. It's light enough to carry every day (as I do) plus it is capable of many tasks if given the chance.
Enjoy it in good health.

I thought this would be the case, but I wanted to ask and know for sure.

Nice snakewood! I love the stuff that's more red in color. Reminds me of Tiger Maple, but a lot prettier!

....Dang it all now I want a SnakeWood Mnandi too! I haven't even ordered my first Sebenza yet ;-;

Look what you've done to me >.> :p

Hah! Love it.

I've got a question for you all: what's an inlay you'd like to see introduced/brought back to the Mnandi? For me, I'd like to see some stone inlays like turquoise, larimar, or jade. I think these stones would really compliment the formal look of the Mnandi and would look fantastic.

Moku Ti
Titanium
Carbon Fiber
Micarta
Timascus
Mother of Pearl
Lip Pearl

To name a few :)

Micarta would make for some great user Mnandi's. Mother of pearl would just be beautiful if teamed with some damascus.

What about labradorite?

Lisa, to me you are still the Mnandi QUEEN, but I have to disagree on a few of those choices...

To me, what makes the Mnandi "THE MNANDI" is the inlay. The wood, bone, Ivory inlays are all different, so no 2 Mnandis are exactly the same. You can have 50 Snakewood Mnandis, and they would all be different.

If you put CF, Micarta or Titanium, well it would still look good, but 50 Titanium inlay Mnandis would all look exactly the same!

Anyway... that's just my opinion of course. And that's also the reason I collect custom knives. Because they are all unique!

Now a damscus, or damasteel inlay... that would be cool! ;)

Kind regards,

Jos

Jos, you are spot on there, I think I just got overly excited with the prospect of additional choices.
I am revising my list to be:

Moku Ti
Titanium (My hope was this inlay would allow custom engraving or Unique Graphics)
Timascus
Mother of Pearl
Lip Pearl

3migo, I wasn't familiar with labradorite and after a google search of images, you have quite the beautiful example there.

How about Fukang Meteorite? If CRK would start using stone/metal inlays, we'd have a whole new world of Mnandi's!

3Migo: The only problem with Metorite is that it tends to be either mostly nickel or mostly iron*. Nickel can cause allergic reactions and Iron.... well I don't think I need to tell ANYBODY here what iron does. Totally with you on the Labrodorite, though. I collect minerals and fossils as well as sharps, and I can tell you right now: If CRK offered gemstone scales, I would the happiest person EVER.

*Fukang is a Stony Iron, so it's mostly iron with olivine crystals.
