I need another Mnandi thread to read.

Didn't know about the problems with meteorite Raylas, thanks for filling me in. I'd just love to see some stone inlaid Mnandi's come out of CRK, there are so many beautiful options to pursue.

^ Anytime, you would all do the same for me. And I would ADORE a stone inlaid Mnandi, I think I would personally go with Malachite if the option were there. It's copper ore, Gorgeous green color with amazing patterns in it, and you can polish it. It's pretty durable too.I think it would go great with Damascus of any pattern!

A cocobolo mnandi is in my rotation, and similar to you it's the mnandi I carry clipped. It is perfect for your daily tasks, and doesn't scare anyone. In fact, more often than not if I pull out a mnandi of any type it will get admired by someone. (Other than me:)

Agreed, I carry mine daily (no rotation, it's my only), no one seems bothered. I had no occasion to use it today, but a few moments ago I took a photo of it just because :D

Malachite is a beautiful stone. I'd really love to see turquoise or larimar, which I think would also look nice with damascus.

A stone inlay would be nice, I love the look of natural materials on the mnandi. They have been made with some impressive inlays over the years..... Mammoth bark is fairly common but there have been years of amazing colors. Also, some of the woods offered in the past have been amazing. My personal favorite out of my mnandis is one from 2006 with camel thorn inlay. I can't post pictures from this iPad or I would show it off:(

I absolutely love the camel thorn, each example is so different from the last with some really beautiful grain. I hope to get one some day.

Turquoise would be AMAZING, and Larimar is nice stuff, been trying to get my hands on a native piece for years now.

I also had another idea a few minutes back: Lapis Lazuli with Pyrite inclusions.

Also a great idea. I'm tempted to call up CRK on Monday and inquire about stone inlays now.

3migo: Oh, I'd be surprised if they weren't game for the idea. It's entirely possible that somebody from CRK is reading this thread.

For the sake of everybody here, I have taken the liberty of gathering a list of stones well suited to becoming inlays for a Mnandi. Some are my own ideas, many others come from friends, both here and elsewhere. 3Migo provided several examples, and I thank him for this!

Nephrite Jade, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, Malachite, Azurite, Larimar, Jasper, Carnelian, Labradorite, Mother of Pearl, Olivine, Feldspar, Petrified wood, onyx, and Calcite.

All of these stones are durable enough to maintain CRK's legendary quality, but are still beautiful. Several come in a wide variety of colors, and have natural inclusions that add a unique feel and look!

I hadn't even thought about onyx, that would be absolutely beautiful. I've always loved the darker grained woods on Mnandi's, and onyx would be stunning.

3Migo: I didn't think of Onyx either, that was my girlfriend's idea XD.

And yeah, Onyx would be like a shiny black mirror for a handle. Some onyx comes with white inclusions, and it comes red in color too. Black onyx would be the preffered color, I think, but black with some snowy inclusions...... talk about classy. It'd even match with a tux.

I had never heard of red onyx until you mentioned it, and after a quick google search I can say that I definitely approve!

3Migo: Yeah, it's not as famous as it's rarer black form, it's an unappreciated gemstone. It's usually called "Sard" or "Sardonyx" in literature. A Mnandi with that as the inlay.... NICE. The stuff almost looks like exotic wood, until you look at it closely or touch it, and realize it's actually a rock. The same is true of black onyx, and sometimes, you get black with red inclusions. That's REALLY rare, but it does happen sometimes.

And I figured everybody would, all the stones I picked were chosen to maximize both durability and aesthetic appeal. I didn't list anything fragile, and I didn't list anything that I felt would go against the look of the Mnandi's design. It's ultimately down to CRK to decide what they would or wouldn't use, but I feel these stones best capture both the Class of a Mnandi and it's user, as well as CRK's policy of utility blended with beauty.

You have a very impressive knowledge of stones, Raylas. Well, if I get the time/remember to, I just might give CRK a call to suggest stone inlays, and I suggest you do the same. The more people that ask for it, the more likely we are to receive!

3Migo: Thank you, my parents are jewelers, and I do a little collecting of minerals on the side. And I planned to anyways, if we all ask nicely it just might happen. We all know CRK is receptive to their customers, all we need to do is be our friendly selves and let them know we'd like to see it!

Here is the camel thorn Mnandi that I posted about yesterday. Next to it is one of my wedding bands. My incredible wife got me multiple bands with different materials/inlays so that I can match my ring to the knife that I am carrying! She is a keeper:)

Awesome Ernie! Matching ring to the knife...dang that choked me all up....keeper indeed!

This would be an amazing looking knife! I can picture it now......The only problem that I can think of is the fact that if you ever dropped it the stone would crack. (and the owner would cry)
