I spent $879.99, look what I got

No, it is not some student but an actual business that does not do retail just mail order. They are "units" and not your standard retail strip mall.
Thats been PVK's address for years...........................

okay, it's not his dorm :)

but he is a student afaik

No, he's not a student. He's been in business since before Bladeforums started (and if you search you'll find threads about his customer service from the beginning of Bladeforums, and on other websites before that). He is a member, by the way, though he hasn't posted for quite a while.

ah, my bad then, i conflated his name with someone else that i remember reading about, had student loans, a dorm room, and other difficulties.

i humbly retract my thought.

The seller will send me the other half of the Scarab, I only need to pay the shipping cost. This time it will be sent through EMS with tracking. He sent pictures to show me the knife's parts. Those are the rest of the Scarab knife, right? I haven't had one so I don't know if any small parts is missing.
I think the thing is going to be fine (only the adress is wrong, I told him about that so it might not be a problem).

awesome!

i'd need instructions myself.

i'm going to have to google now to see how that mechanism works. i've always wondered.

good luck

I would ask him to include some detailed instructions on how to reassemble that thing.....

Looks a bit tricky to figure out for yourself.

Glad to hear there is some progress being made on the whole mess.

The MT out the fronts are actually not too bad to put back together. The springs are not under tension untill the
fire button is pulled/pushed so it is actually a case of just sticking all the bits back together, in the right order.
It's actually harder to put a coil spring side action auto back together than an OTF in my experience.:grumpy:

Mingyu, if you still need some bits my friend does have the shell and a few of the "3 point" screws
but dosn't have any other pieces for a Scrab on hand. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

i found a video on YT that shows an OTF, might even be the scarab, that clearly (to me), showed the mechanism, and the "ah hah" light came on, on how those clever things work. it's amazingly simple, and explains why there are so many knockoff devices like USB sticks, combs, and the like, that use it. good job MT!

Thanks Haze, if I can receive the bits from the seller then I don't need your friend's bits. Thanks for helping me!

I am very glad to see some semblance of a positive resolution to this. I just wish Josh would shape the heck up so he could resume a place of honor/trust.
all da best,
rats...

I hope that is not a problem.
He should have your correct address since he's been shipping stuff to you.
That's a serious lack of watching the details.
He might have sent the second package you were looking for to someone else.

Hope it works out for you.

Indeed, a wrong address might be a small problem!

I just hope he's not pissing down your back and telling you its raining.....

Best of luck!

Mingyu, the next time you buy a knife in the US, ask the seller (probably another one then this ... ) to ship it in a 'USPS Priority Mail® International Flat-Rate Envelope'. Make sure that he puts transparant tape over the flap since the glue is not really strong. For $12.95 you'll have your knife in a week from almost anywhere in the states. Since it is not classified as a package (it fits through your mailbox), chances that the customs will check it for it's value and charge VAT and import duty are also much less. So no need to break any laws in putting a lower value on the customs slip.

Shipping knives in envelopes rather than boxes is a great way to encourage in-transit thievery. :(

items should be wrapped in a plastic bag and well taped to prevent escape; items that slip around in boxes or envelopes have this tendency to escape. items that don't have sheaths or are otherwise sheathed in flimy cardboard are just asking to have a blade come shooting out the side when dropped (they will be dropped at some point)

a very thin box with padding materials

or item tape TO a sheet of cardboard, then covered by another to make a sandwich, total two sheets of cardboard with item inside; all edges sealed with STRONG tape, then wrap that in a Tyvek type envelope and *address* (for id purposes if main envelope/box/etc opens up) it, wrap 4 pieces of tape again, 2 per side... still not very thick, put that inside the envelope, with a couple pieces of tape inside to anchor it... close envelope, *staple it*. seal it shut using security and/or really strong tape...

the paranoid would take pictures of the major steps as "proof" of technique.

with boxes, i even tape all three dimensions securely with fiber tape...

label - use permanent ink, write large and clear, and COVER the label with clear packing tape long enough to go around package at least once. that way label doesn't smudge, is easy to read, and doesn't "fall off" requiring that package be inspected - which might cause seizure. in any case, a secondary internal label on outside of previously wrapped internal item(s) provide a clue to the shipping people (and doesn't give away the goodies as yet).

package things as if they were the most important things in the world - it takes longer and is worth it, imho. tossing an item into a random envelope and shipping that, well, it's asking for grief. if it takes too long to do, hire someone ;)

You're a rootin' and a tootin'. That better be the best damn Scrab the world has ever seen :p

I'm glad it finally worked out for you in the end mingyu :)

WOW, this situation is complete bullsh!t and I am very sad to have to see anyone have to deal with something like this. There is no reason you shouldn't receive your package within a week or so after payment, NO REASON. Congradulations on finally getting your knife, at least one of them. What is the deal with the first one? Is it just going to be a loss? That sucks, those things are not cheap by any means. My only suggestion to you is to do some research on sellers before any money changes hands. I understand giving people the benefit of the doubt, but in the future make people earn your trust rather than waiting for something to happen that causes them to lose it. Anyway, it is awesome that you finally got your knife, I hope you are happy with it and it brings many years of joy.
