I want to believe - Survive! Speculations! Get it here!

So there's another newsletter going out today... What's that all about? Necker? 5.1 release for non pre-orders? FOLDER SURPRISE PARTY?

Yeah! I'm very interested to hear what is so exciting that a special news letter is needed. I'd like to think a pic of a folder would have been leaked to us :)
Maybe something with preorders and regular orders?

For those of you who are into good folders and knowing they types of materials Guy might use, how much would you guess a SURVIVE! folder would go for? $150? $300?

Its hard to speculate without dimensions or knowing the materials. But I can see it being very reasonable just like everything else in the S! line up. I'm sure we can expect something fantastic for a moderate price or in some cases insanely low.

I don't mind speculating on things I don't know anything about so here goes! :D
A Sebenza 25 runs about $400 so I think that is the practical upper end for a semi-production folding knife.
I think that a folding knife needs a lot more machine time and requires high tolerances to work properly compared to a fixed blade so we can expect to pay more for a similar blade length.
If a 4.1 has a base price of $199 I suppose that a "field grade folding knife" is going to be somewhere in the $300 to $400 price range.

I think I saw something about Three Rivers potentially producing the knife (or I confused something...), and their knifes seem to be in the $2-400 price range so I guess around 300 is a pretty fair guess. But I'm hoping for Guy to surprise us and have it land around 250 ;)

Very interesting thread....

RE lower priced materials I'd love to see Guy and crew give 01 a try with a good coating or not on a few models like 4.1, 5.1 and 5. It's really easy to sharpen, easier than D2, A2, 3v and/or any stainless steel and it's pretty tough. It should be cheaper than s7 but not as tough.

I'd also love to see them contour their G10 and their micarta scales to make them tackier. I've talked to Guy about this several times but it's just not in the cards at this time.

Lastly I'd love to see them make a field axe. Yes it's totally contrary to Guy's knife philosophy but I bet he's thought about it and I'd really like to see his design. It might be too expensive in 3v but might be good for s7.

Sorry forgot to add....a 3v folder....like maybe a 4.1 folder?? Sorry did I make these posts a wish list?? Maybe that's a new thread!!

I was going to post this on another thread but I decided this might be the better place for it. Bonus, it makes for a convenient bump. I get a lot of enjoyment from reading this thread.

We are working on the details for a plan regarding the wait time issue. Not everyone is going to like it. But that statement can be applied to everything else we have ever done. So we've decided to come up with our ideal situation. If we are going to have naysayers no matter what, we might as well be happy with the way we are doing things.

The details will be available in the next few weeks.

I am assuming that this all came about due to the uprising of support for the GSO20 and the fact that you will have to now work yet another large model into the production timeline? :):):) :p

I am looking forward to reading about it Just my $0.02 but maybe you reserve some % of your build for people who want to pay 5% to 15% more to bump them to the top of the wait list. Let the buyer decide. Your prices are very reasonable and someone might pay a little more to get the knife a few weeks or days early.

CLIFFHANGER!!!

I don't know how much time the assembly takes, but what about an IKEA-approach... (I'm Swedish, so I don't mind. ;) )

ps. Thanks for the bump! :)

Wow, Ellie just dropped a bomb... of mystery!

Maybe they'll send out knives to those with SURVIVOR! numbers first? :D

Less handle options to cut down assembly time and make the GSO line a little more streamlined like the SK line?

Genetically clone Guy so multiple Guys can be sharpening?

Start making GSO's with quality that is similar to BudK to lower the demand?

Would shipping a free S! hat with all knife purchases speed up production somehow?

Seriously, I'd put my own handles on if it made life easier for Ellie :)

Yes! Yes, that must be it!

Or they just hide all knives from the shop, and when they pop up on the web they're already sharpened and finished to go?

Which of course makes this thread more important than ever... ;)
