Idiots on eBay - Classiccutleryusa

I have just found out after a message from paypal "Honest Dave" is appealing against my refund, so I went to check on him on E-Bay to help compose my reply and SUPRISE, SUPRISE neither his E-bay shop or his E-bay listing has any items for sale.:)

May be Square Trade have finally threw him out, who knows!

I also included the link below to the paypal claims team, just to help them see who is in the right here...

So it looks like "Honest Dave" has done all us genuine E-bay buyers a favour and packed up! :)

We should be so lucky. Just like the trolls here, he will most likely re-surface, under a different name.

But just in case he is done for...

Have you guys noticed that since the rules have changed on eBay that people are leaving a lot more negative feedbacks now?

Classiccutleryusa is taking a bit of a pounding in the feedback department.

I was at first a bit apprehensive about the new e-bay feedback system but it now stops the likes of "honest Dave" leaving "tit for tat" neg feedback.

I think we are actually now seeing how his feedback would of been if people were not so frightened in the past to be honest about his service for fear of a neg feedback as punishment for being honest.

I for one will be looking out for "Pheonix Dave's" return and be reporting back.

That site format does look like Dave's old site. I just sent him an email asking if it was him!

someone should write the AG again, he probably oding repeated nationwide scams on ebay, then moves on to new ID once the rep catches up to him.

We'll find out in a day or so...I hope!

Anyone know where Bennington is in relation to Hopkinton?

Well - I received a reply from hikersparadisegearshop - When I pointedly asked if they had Sold on Ebay before and/or ever been Banned from Ebay here is their response;

"I have not sold on eBay before, but I worked for my brother, who did. We're not exactly on great speaking terms right now as he's had some trouble with eBay and couldn't keep me on. He owed me some payroll, which is how I got some of this stuff, plus I bought some of his stock since he's not on eBay anymore. I'm getting a lot of questions about his zip-up knife cases, but he won't sell any of those to me. I do know he's setting up a separate web site.

I think he may have alienated a few people. He's very knowledgable about this stuff (25 years in cutlery this month), but we have some very different ideas about customer service. He would not offer returns, and I'm offering a money-back satisfaction guarantee. I'm also offering free domestic shipping.

This is not really my thing, you know? I'm an accountant and I make crafts, but I have a lot more knives and watches to list on eBay before I'm done with all that, so I'll be on for a while and then decide whether to keep selling this stuff. It's fun, I just don't know a lot about it.

Take care,

Heidi "

It appears that Dave has taken this time for reincarnation due to several factors;
- Ebay will be mandating the amount of Shipping that Sellers can charge (as of Oct 1st I think) thus the FREE shipping change to their Auctions (no more overcharging Customers for Shipping.,..... and then never shipping)
- Ebay's recent policy change to Feedback does not allow for retaliation

I have asked "Heidi" if Dave is her Brother (by all accounts we already know the Answer, but we'll see what she says.

Firstly he lost his appeal against my refund this morning

"UNLUCKY"

And yes it is him if you read the small print down the side it says....

"All checks and money orders must be made out to DP Lewis. All payments must be USA funds only. Thank you!"

You can run but you can't hide Dave!

Well.... it is confirmed. Thank again Perry for pointing to the new identity.

Here is the last message I received from Heidi:

" Hello again. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience. I am not personally aware that he ever cheated anyone, and I was his office manager and bookkeeper for two years. He was very slow about giving refunds and that did cause some conflict, but I know for a fact he has been attacked by some unscrupulous buyers who claimed to receive the wrong item (impossible, since there were always at least two people checking every outgoing order) or who claimed he did not issue a refund when he actually did. I've learned that's just the nature of doing business online; people can hide behind nasty comments without repercussion, and once they've posted it online lesser individuals will accept it as truth without substantiation. That said, he made mistakes and I learned from them while I worked with him, but I'm really not interested in bashing him. One of my duties was coordinating the physical inventory, so whenever he received a complaint that he had shipped the wrong item I would do a count and find our inventory 100% accurate, so those buyers were just manipulating the eBay/PayPal loopholes to try to get a free item. I would have to fight PayPal and get the funds restored to our account when I provided proof of correct delivery, but that's not the type of outcome the general public sees. They only see the negative feedbacks left by dishonest people. Sad but true.

Take care,

Heidi"
-----------------------------------------

Certainly sounds like Dave's redoric and propaganda. I will ask the Mods if it is OK to publish the new email address for anyone that still has "business" with Dave, or Heidi.....

Also, I emailed Ebay to ask them to intervene in the reincarnation of this terrible business - don't know what might come of it but at least we'll keep on trying.

It seems clear that "Heidavei" has over looked his poor track record of posting things, I personaly understand it was due to his love of "Walking in the White Mountains" but come on every item was 3 weeks before it left the shelf despite immediate payment. You cant run a business and hike everyday it just doesn't work.

Then there was the listing items he never had and using the age old "I sold the last one at a knife show yesterday" excuse!

I still think he was taking orders without stock then waiting 3 weeks to fill them also posibly with this money on deposit gaining interest in the bank, then when some orders could not be filled like Microtech who are winding down knife production in favour of guns he had to lie, then add another 3-4 weeks with your money gaining him interest before you had to get paypal involved to recoup it then 3-4 weeks waiting for them to pay you back.

Then he even appealed over the refund so I had another 3-4 weeks of unsureity.

I for one will be watching most closely the activities of Heidi who gets her cheques made out to D.P. Lewis????:confused::confused:

The changing of e-bay's feedback policy has been his downfall, finally those of us with 100% can keep it at the same time as being honest about Dave without the fear of reciprocal neg feedback.

Watch this space.

Just sent this...straight to the point lets see what Heidave has to say in reply.

Hi

Your ebay page says make money orders out to D.P.Lewis is this by any chance Dave Lewis of classic cutlery?

http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=classiccutleryusa&Dirn=Received+by&ref=home

Could you clarify you have nothing to do with him please.

I for one am a bit confused one minute Heidi is his brother then he/she worked for him a few years back, but then says left owing money what from 2years ago, then says she was in charge of stock checking.

With Dave,s history of letting people down and running out of stuff the one thing I would never admit to was being the one who sorted his stock out thats gaurenteed e-bay sellers suicide.

They will be queueing up to buy off the person who ran "Honest Daves" inventory....NOT

The big reason Ebay is changing the shipping rules, is that a lot of sellers had caught on to the fact that shipping charges were not part of the price, so not subject to Ebays "cut" of the sale price.

They were selling items that let's say were worth $40.00, for $10.00 + $30.00 shipping.

Then shipping for $5.00 and only paying Ebay their cut of the $10.00.

Ebay finally caught on and is stopping that.

And just so future searchers make the connection,

hikersparadisegearshop + classiccutleryusa = DO NOT BUY FROM He/She

:D
