If you had to go to war, what is the one fixed blade and 1 folder you would take??

I would put the butt of my rifle across his face before I'd pull a SAK.
Put your SAK in your sack and your foot up his ass.
That said, I would like to have a Busse Boss Jack and Spyderco Military if i had to pick 2 for battle.
Keep the multi-TOOL in your pack.

Lets say your enemy is advancing you and I'm talking close like feet away and your rifle jams, you gunna poke him with your SAK?

This man here will answer you in a rather loud tone of his own. Marchu Talai!

easy choice till you have to carry that massive Busse around. great choice on the ZT though. hard to beat

It's not as heavy as it looks. And realistically speaking, if I ever go to war, it would be here Norway defending my country. And believe me - a knife with a bit of chopping power is invaluable around here. Back when I was in the army I was the only one on my team who carried a big knife and I ended up using it quite a bit.

heavy isn't the only factor... there was probably a reason you were the only one carrying a huge knife and used it quite a bit. most soldiers who "use" their knives (I don't count anyone who is not combat arms related) will choose a knife with a blade between 5.5 and 6.5 inches MAX, after they carry a few. Usually once they get some experience and realize their value and limiting factors, and have to choose their kit accordingly, they usually leave the big stuff at home in lieu of other more practical kit, and unless you are building a log home as a shelter, i think most will find that knife just too much to be practical... but hey, it sure would look nice.

Fixed blade: bark river bravo 1.. + izula 2

folder: strider SMF or a Hinderer..

I see some people saying fighting with a knife is fantacy land stuff... but it isn't true at all.. Yes of course, normally your firearm is your go-to choice.. (quite obviously)...

But, i feel as though your kit should be well-rounded and ready for as much as you can be... and with a choice of a good reliable blade your better off for whatever use you need it for..
Just my opinion..

For fixed I would go with an Ontario marine radier because its a nine in Bowie that can for me do most my tasks both large and small and for a folder a bench made model 31and a good multitool

It sounds like the only way a soldier uses his knife as weapon not as a tool?

Not quite true :) I brought my Buck 110 and it has been used to open boxes, cut cords, and other assorted cutting tasks. I have a M4 and/or M9 if I need a weapon.

Ideally I would probably bring a Kabar and my Buck 110. Both are easily replaced but good enough to rely on.

I brought a standard issue m9 bayonet and a spyderco military folder on most of my deployments, more recently a fallkniven A1. I don't use it that much, blade still has the original edge.

My Leatherman wave and ZK pestilence chopper (aka Case XX machete). With those two I can open peach cans as well as cranium.

Between the difference in individual soldiers and the difference in their individual tasks/experience... there is no "only" just mostly, just like the "Navy SEAL" knives aren't the "only" knife that real SEALs carry, just an example of what some might find suitable. knife tasks and uses vary, but the 99.935% answer is a soldiers knife "mostly" is a tool. from opening rations to ammo cans to cutting through god knows what, knives are the day to day workhorses of any soldiers kit, and yes, that includes any gun, as as far as I know, nobody ever opened an ammo can or ration with an M4 (not on purpose anyway)

I would take my Camillus Navy MkII, I have had it 30 years and it has not let me down yet but I do use it as a knife and not an axe or pry bar. For a folder I would take my original Leatherman (1987 vintage). Other multitools have come along but since I never broke the Leatherman I never got to try the others out.

I've been to war. My preferred EDC combo was a Randall 19 and a Hinderer XM-18 3.5" spanto.
