If you had to pick one knife to carry forever...

Either my SAK Spartan or a similar model with a saw, perhaps a camper or hiker. Realistically covers about 95% of my needs.

There is lots of flavour of the month stuff out there but having worn out 50 years worth of pant pockets in carrying a SAK Spartan I rather doubt my habits will ever change.

I think that's right. My initial thought was to go with either my Sebenza or SNG, but realized I use the SAK most of the time already.

I would be hard pressed to go with one knife forever but my new version Vic Soldier w/ Nite Ize clip for work and my Cold Steel Recon1 XL Tanto XHP for off work is something I could be happy with.
That is one knife at a time.

What a tough call! ... It's between my 21 , 25 and Umnanzaan.
But if there is going to be a zombie apocalypse tomorrow, I'll grab my sebe 25. Combine refine good look of the 21 with the tacticool of the Umnanzaan... Killing zombie and survive end of the world in style😈

But seriously guys, CRK seems to be winning in this thread.

One knife, and one knife only, from now until the end of days, I'd have to consider all factors and choose a knife that does all things well enough, rather then a knife that excels at one thing, but lacks greatly at others. Considering also, if i am to even entertain this notion, that if it would so ever come down to such a horrific choice, S has clearly H the F! And we're living in troubled times, and would likely choose my bk5.
Tough enough I'd be hard pressed to break it
Simple enough to be field sharpened with ease to a very fine edge, and handles are easy enough to replace if they would become damaged.
Fixed blade doesn't require as much effort or worry over cleaning and maintaining (potentially replacing) the extra moving parts.
Large enough to chop, profiled well enough to slice, pointy enough to stab.
I'd rather have more knife and not need it, then limit myself in size, and potentially find myself in a situation wanting, especially if it's the only knife i'll ever carry again.

If I was allowed one fixed and one folder, I'd add a SAK huntsman or s17 evogrip to its front pouch for its simple versatility.

If I had to choose something I own, I would choose my Seamus Knives Cracked Uber. I carried it for 4 years as my EDC. It is an amazing knife!! I LOVE it.

That's a good looking knife Kwon. Just looks like it would feel perfect in the hand :)

Small Sebenza Insingo for me.....or wait forgot my PM2....oh Idk how about both!

My new favorite is the ZT0450cf. It almost makes me want to sell a bunch of my other knives.

As others have stated this is a tough choice but for me, if it really were down to one single knife I guess it'd be a fixed blade. Of those, I'd be really hard pushed to choose between my Lon Humphrey Brute de Forge and my Fiddleback Forge Bushfinger.

I think ultimately the Bushfinger would win out due to the thin 1/8th tapered blade stock which makes it incredibly light for its size.

Naturally, I'd want to pair it with a folder. Probably a chpice between my Small Sebbie 21, Benchmade550-1 or my Para 2 in S35VN...

I guess I cheated on the OP's task ;)

If it is forever, it must meet these four rules:

One, it has to be easy to sharpen in the field.

Two, it has to be easy to clean.

Three, it can't cost to much to replace.

Four, it has to fit my hand.

Well, let's see. the jury is still out on what fixed blade I would pick. Nor really sure if I would want a fixed anyway. With some of the crazy knife laws and all....

So, that leaves a folder. Should be easy to choose one. How about a Benchmade Adamas? But, if I have to choose from among the knives I own, then I would pick from these four:

Benchmade Volli

Benchmade 551 Griptilian

Kershaw 1735 OR, a US made Zing with Sandvik steel

CRKT Prowler

I guess I would have to go with the CRKT Prowler. I know the steel is not the best but I really like the ergos better than the Benchmade line and it is a little larger than the Kershaw.

How realistic is it to limit a guy to one knife anyway?

My family would know IMMEDIATELY that something was wrong, very very wrong, to only have one knife in my pockets/coat/kit, unthinkable. They would be checking the attic and basement for pods....

but, in answer to your question, it would be a fixed blade, something in AEB-L most likely so less prone to rust yet able to take a razor's edge, 4" blade with a 5" handle and some kind of guard, modified wharncliffish type blade, scales of micarta or g10, something like that, IF I had to...

otherwise,... leave me alone ;)

No question about it.. My Benchmade 531-132

If I had to choose only one, it would be the spyderco native 5 in s35vn. Small enough for work yet big enough the tasks I need

Only one carry? With other tools and food prep knives available, my Danijel Haramina / Malanika puukko. No other tools around, SAK one hand Trekker. No food prep knives available my Becker BK-15. Apocalypse scenario, USMC / OKC 3S bayonet on the end of a Mossberg 590.
