Wow, things are already looking good in the contest thread. I'm going to have to step up my game if I want a chance at internet fame :p.

Also, I don't think I saw this. Should we be trying to post things all in one post in the official thread, or can we respond multiple times?

2 submissions in, 18 to go! This should be a great thread (this and the sticky that is)

Mine are split between 2 posts but I think the more condensed they are the easier it will be to review ymmv

Got my inner tube stuff today! Well I better go read the rules again, lol
JD, it cracks me up that someone with your talent in kydex is strapping stuff to your sheath with old bicycle inner tubes! LOL! But with victory on the line, I'm sure I'd be doing the same.

Cody - I like what you did with the lighter; very cool!

Thanks! I've actually found that to be one of the most useful tricks so far, no more burning fingers lol

My box of inner tube chunks arrived today. Now to figure out something different than what others have come up with. If I can. :D

LG&M, that was a great post in the contest thread. I was planning on doing both the guyline shock cord, and keeping the retention straps away from the blade :/. Guess I wasn't being as original as I thought :P.

But dang, I wont be able to post anything for a few weeks. And at that point I'll have to see if there is anything left.

But really, great work so far. There are clearly lots of uses for these little things.

Thank you,
I think their are some more cool stuff to use them for. I am sure someone will post something that will make me wish I thought of it.
I am glad I got the post done before my desktop computer took a dump on me.

Actually thought of a couple of those, but I think you knocked it out of the park with a few, the fletching being the one that comes to mind....that was some out of the box thinking - though you'd still need to have cement. Gonna have to do some reconsideratering. Was gonna do the liner thingy, but know you've given me the opportunity to, ah....innovate.

The tongs for the fire was also a great idea!

I know not many would have glue with them, I used shoe goo. Useful stuff I sometimes take with me on longer car trips.
I think it might also work with duct tape.

Thank you, making videos was a good idea. How much longer did the fire stay lit because of the inner tube?

"WARNING OFF TOPIC*

I need to know about that sheath and attachment!

Sorry, just saw this...I can PM you a link to the maker. I bought the 16 with sheath used and that dangler was the first thing that caught my eye when I opened the box.

Back on topic. A lot of great ideas there, many I hadn't and prob wouldn't have thought of. I'm trying to come up with odd and different uses as well so I prob won't have as many entries but I'll try to makem count.

Thanks. Seemed like a better demonstration of the fire capabilities than just photographs, especially when using a ferro and striker to light it.

I think the lint burned about twice the length of time with the inner tube in it. I think where I see this being most useful is if you have to light your tinder with a ferro rod or more primitive fire techniques (eg, bow drill). The lint is kind of "level 1" tinder and the ranger band chunks are "level 2." The lint takes a spark or ember better, then lights the inner tube which burns longer.

Thanks GSOM! Stopped wearing my favorite watch over a year ago because that flimsy little leather strap disappeared. Dangit! Now I need a battery!

Hey, thank psyop. He was looking for some inner tubes for that very same thing a year ago and since I was a bike mechanic (and am inveterate pack rat) I was happy to oblige. Have a lot of inner tubes saved - they make GREAT tie downs for all manner of things on the roof rack to bundling wood and such. Unfortunately, the pieces I received aren't long enough for some of the more interesting ideas I have (and have employed). Might have to do an extra credit (for no credit) addendum with some full size inner tubes. Very handy.

Extra credit..... You betcha..... Please share your ideas..... That is the whole point of the exercise...... I am loving this....... Lots of good ideas here guys, lots....... I am thinking a second prize for stuff outta the box.......

I am thinking a second prize for ideas that take longer, bigger tubes.....sort of thinking outta the little cardboard box, as it were........ I am already think tie downs that will not injure the finish on my new truck...... I am always amazed at the problem solving skills of the denizens of this place ........
