Intros all around

My name is Ray Price (Razor). I am 55 years old, and married, and have two kids. The boy is 21, and my girl is 18. I have been a farmer most of my life, and always like the outdoors, and hunting and fishing. I live in Bristol, Virginia. I like being a woods bum, and deer hunting. You guys have got me buying to many knives, haha. I am glad to be a member of this forum, and knowing the many fine people I have met on here.:)

I just wanted to say a quick "Hello and welcome!" to all the new-ish folks around here, or to those that I haven't gotten to speak with much directly. WSS is a fantastic place, because of all the fantastic people that comprise it.

Hello, my name is Wayne, I live in Mississippi and I started to come here when I got sick about 2 yrs ago. I had to stay inside the house after 4 surgeries on my kidney from a kidney stone. I got staph infection and got really sick and lost the kidney anyway. I am now just turning 40 on the 10th of this month and I really love this site and the people. Yes, i have bought my share of knives because of you guys! haha. I love everyone of them. I have a wife of 18 yrs and 2 daughters 12 and 18. I served in the U.S Army and was in the gulf war in 90 and 91. I worked as a deputy and then the state police until I got sick. Maybe I will get to go back to work in March but Im still battling the kidney problem. I love the outdoors and I live in the country on the same land my Great Grandfather lived on. Its nice meeting you people and Merry Christmas.

Hi I am Joe, I am 22 and from New Hampshire. I am a welder / fabricator for a sheet metal company. I love metal work, and I do some knifemaking and blacksmithing. Most of what I forge is stuff for the woods, strikers for flint and steel, and cooking cranes. I also refurbish alot of old cast iron and old axes. I love to hunt, fish, hike, kayak, canoe, and camp. I also love makeing wine and hard cider. Joe

Ok, I'll play. I'm Mack. 44 years old.
After 17 years as a bouncer, construction worker, papermaker, warehouseman I now own and drive a truck. I live in the most beautiful place in the US (IMHO), 100ft from the Alsea river and 3 miles from the beach in Oregon.
Unfortunately I've only been home twice this year.
I love to shoot, hunt, hike, play golf, bird watch, tidepool etc.
The Hank Snow song I've been everywhere sums up my life. I grew up on the west coast but my folks are from Nova Scotia so every other year we drove back there. Always taking a different route. For 7 years I drove around the country picking up, yes lifting every one of them, the railroads batteries. Heavy work but I got to see most of the small railroad towns that most people never hear of. Don't be surprised if I have been to your town (right Shotgunner).
My dad was a hockey right winger and I am a hockey nut. Never played it as I was a defensive end playing football most of my life but I love it now.
As for martial arts an old teacher of mine said "I do martial arts for conditioning and carry a .45 for self defense". That's my attitude as well.
This is the only pic I have as the camera for some reason would not work after taking it. I don't know what caused that but...

Howdy. My name is Chris and I am 39 years old. I became a pencil pusher about seven years ago to raise a family. I am happily married with two beautiful children ( 6 & 4). Before that I worked as forester of which I have a B.S. in Forest Resources and Conservation (trust me, you don't get into forestry for the money). Tree and plant ID, primitive skills, and teaching my kids self reliance are my hobbies and how I get my outdoor fix...

I've refrained from posting in this thread, so far, being basically shy , but I figure if a Quiet Bear can be forthcoming............... (Hey dude, you don't look anything like I imagined :) )

I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, which is in the southern part of the province, on the extreme west end of Lake Ontario. I'm 62 years old, and have been involved in outdoor activities to a greater and lesser degree, for the last 50 years, give or take a couple.

Believe it or not, one of the biggest inspirations for me in regards to primitive skills/wilderness survival was the old tv series, 'Kung Fu'. I used to watch Kwai Chang Caine wander through the wilderness, feeding himself with what he could forage, and I thought, 'What a sense of freedom, that would give you!'

Also, at that time, my wife and I backpacked with my little son and daughter. Seeing all the different plants and trees, while we were out and about, made me wonder what they were and what they could be used for, and so began my love affair with plants. A love affair that continues to this very day. Considering how much time I've spent on it, I should be some kind of expert - alas, I'm not. :( , but maybe, in the learning, is the joy. Or as they say, "Success is the journey, not the destination." Whatever it is, I find great satisfaction in the pursuit.

For the longest time, I didn't know anybody else that was interested in the same thing, so I guess that slows down progress. Hell, it took me 10 years to learn to do bow drill fire from a book. Mind you, I didn't work at it every day and one of the advantages of so doing, is you get to make every mistake possible, so when somebody else is having a problem, it makes it easier to see what they're doing wrong.

Presently, I have 2 good friends that are also so inclined and we get together from time to time, to play with traps, hike, canoe trip, do plant walks, shoot a few arrows and just hang.

From time to time, I do demonstrations and displays of primitive skills/wilderness survival for various groups such as Big Brothers, local outdoor clubs etc. but haven't done anything recently. My skill levels vary from fairly competent in friction fire making, to barely adequate in flint knapping and bow making. Actually that would even be an exaggeration, :o but it's all good :D

I belong to several like-minded discussion forums, but rarely venture away from this one anymore. The good natured, generous, experienced and the not-so-experienced people, who are more than willing to share, on this forum, make it a very enjoyable place to be- way too often, actually :(. I look forward to many more days, weeks, months, and years (?) to come here and share with my keyboard kin. Oh, and this is probably the last time you will see me this serious. :(

Oh and the pictures:

A picture of me trying to help a friend collect on his insurance policy .

And one, I hope that makes baldtaco-II puke again. I'm the handsome dude on the right. Yes, we are canoeing in lawn chairs. Alcohol was a lot cheaper in those days. (BTW, check out the Buck knife hat!) I guess I should also mention, before somebody tries this and drowns - the 2 canoes were lashed together (for a bit of sailing).

Looking good, Doc!

The Kung Fu series was a great inspiration for me, too... I have met David Carradine a couple of times!.... My entire life path can be traced back to Kung Fu and Grizzly Adams re-runs!!!

We'll have to get together one of these days and talk "beard hygiene and maintanance" and how it relates to bush grub and black flies.... lol.

I am 39 years old and live in North Dakota, I have a wife and two girls that share my love for the outdoors. I am an avid bow hunter and an archery instructor. I am also a hunting partner to a very enthusiastic Springer that knows exactly when bird season opens.

I'm Jack. I like fishing/hunting/hiking/foolin' around out in the mountains. So naturally I like knives. I can't believe I only found this site this year. It's been great so far with very friendly people who seem almost as whacky as I am.
