July 14, 2022 botm 119 full flat grind

I understand why they ffg the 119, but looking at the entire 100 series, a ffg 118 makes the most sense to me.

Got pics? I know I'm jumping the gun a little.

I'm still on the fence but the flat grind is pulling at me. Should slice and dice food well.

I have the flat grind 119 C&C had as an exclusive.
I like flat grind knives, and that one is nice.
I thought it would be nice option for food prep, or maybe a camp knife.
But after using it I've decided the blade shape of the 119 really doesn't do that job as well as other blade shapes do.

I think the blade shape of the 119 lends itself more to game processing, cutting and quartering very well.
But using it to prep food, I prefer a blade shaped more like a french knife.
The 104 is better at food prep than a 119. Especially the flat grind versions. At least it's the one I use the most for camp/food prep purposes
The 104 is probably my favorite fixed blade knife, so.... that's just my biased opinion.

I think the Tops Pasayten is a much better camp and food prep knife than a 119 could ever be, simply based on blade shape.

I think Buck's high hollow grind slices thru meat better than a flat grind when used as a hunting knife.
So I'm curious as to what the flat grind 119 would excel at....
The novelty of it didn't last long with me.

Just my thoughts.

from experience ffg sometimes has more steel behind the edge. all depends on the stock thickness and grind geometry though. I haven't seen this one yet to see how thick or thin it is. on a thin stock ffg it should be a good slicer though the entire cut.

I like ffg myself and haven't noticed any major downsides for using it over a steep thin hollow grind.

I dont mind any grind setup, but some are better or worse on a task..but in the end its all geometry.

I like to see Buck play with different grinds myself. I think I'm gonna like this 119 ffg.......

Inappropriate Content
y'all have solid points, but its kinda special in that we don't see many fixed blades in ffg from Buck. this is the second 119 in ffg, both limited runs. besides these two only a few others I can think of, least in modern times.

truth be told I like s35vn, but would have preferred 5160 in ffg myself....and im not a fan really of red micarta.......but we don't get what we really want often, if ever..........
It would be nice to see buck do a 7" scandi grind. A 7" compadre with a s35vn satin scandi blade would be [expletive deleted]..... with ebony handles and a turquoise anvil inlaid somewhere near the rear....🤪😎🤪😎🤪😎

No kids. My better half has three girls from her first marriage. The youngest is in the Reserve so she gets first pick. I'll keep a couple of smaller ones for my final care home days but the rest will pay for my funeral.
Just a joke . I am obviously stating my own fear... lol. One of my kids thought my dad grew up In the 1800s. 🤣

Good point.
I wasn't thinking that way.
I've read that ffg's can be more durable for that reason.

My co-worker distorted the edge on his new Vanguard 420hc I got him.
He was trying to break open a deer pelvis with it last fall.
I'd be interested in the results had he been using this instead.
.... Noting that the knife wasn't really designed for chopping bone anyways.

My brother received his in the mail as well. According to the card it came with, it's 1 of 750. Does that mean that it's literally Number 1 of 750, or are the authenticity cards not individually numbered?

I don't know why the pic isn't showing up, but if you click the link then it will.
