Ken Onion joined forces with CRKT

Sometimes all a thread really needs is a troll to make it truly complete. :)

There are a number of opinions voiced in this thread and they are all valid and welcome. I don't agree with all of them myself but I respect the process of hearing everyone out . Good , bad or indifferent , thats what this place is all about. Name calling only pisses people off and that is never a good thing.
I personally appreciate the attention this thread has gotten and feel it is important to know how you all feel about the news, the knife and the process.
That being said , Thank you for all of the support! and thank you for all the differing opinions!
The passion expressed in this thread is exciting! Please keep your thoughts coming .

but...

You sir have no idea what you are talking about. I did not sign the revised contract. I don't know where you are getting your information but it is false.

Fact is that there are some posts that are not valid. Speculation, rumor, and trolling, are just a few of the "opinions" we've read here. If I've addressed a post and member in a way you feel are out of bounds, I'm certainly glad I didn't respond to all of responses that we're less than valid. Perhaps I still have more learning to do with regards to reacting to posters that are looking to engage more than discuss. Seems your tolerance is a tad higher than mine. I'll continue to work harder, promise. :)

As do I, unfortunately the drift has been off of the OP's news, the knife, and the process.

Sorry for the drift here myself.

You both do excellent work, and us, as hobbyist, should respect you in kind for spending the time to chime in on our internet drivel :)

Sal wears the same badge of honor in my book. We are all better for the participation of industry leaders.

Looks like a nice design. I'll probably be picking one up. From the pics, my only complaint would be the pocket clip. It looks just a touch out of place, like it was an afterthought of the design, but I'll have to wait until it's in my hand and pocket before making any final judgements.

very nice Ken.

I'm getting sick of this.

Thanks for not rubbing it in my face.

Why the infraction? Am I the only person who thought he was admitting that he was 'eating crow' for being wrong?

Maybe my sarcasm meter is broken today.

I've been called a troll and now, after re-reading this, apparently have been called a tool. I didn't know I'd been insulted until someone was laughing about it in a later post. I looked it up, as I've heard it rarely, and it wasn't nice. Doesn't bother me anyway, I have thick skin.

At any rate, Thomas, you mention you have low tolerance. I think that is something we should all work on.

More importantly you stated; "I have little doubt that Kai USA and Ken will both have successful futures." To me there is a fine line between confidence and overconfidence. You should be confident KAI will move forward with success, but one never knows. Countries have fallen for overconfidence, let alone corporations.

Oh well. Best of luck to Kershaw and Ken Onion. Look forward to watching your designs in the future. Again, something along the Cyclone line that won't break, maybe a springless design, should be a winner. The knife that is shown here is a great one too Ken, but the handle dressings (for a lack of a better word and gosh, somebody tell me how dumb I am) are a tad bit loud for my liking. Everything else, about perfect.

Again, good luck everyone.

Just within the last month have IU discovered Ken Onion and Kershaw knives. I am a traditional guy at heart, but love the Ken Onion design. I got a Mini Cyclone and love it. Like other Kershaws I have seen. This really saddens me to hear. I was looking forward to more Kershaw/Onion knives in my future. I guess I was just to late to the show.

No worries...there are a lot more Onion designed Kershaws out there for you to try out. :)

No need to be sad, Bill. Kershaw/KAI/ZT have plenty of Ken's knife designs in their catalog. I expect we'll even see some new design collaborations in the future, too. Plus Ken is working on more mid-tech projects with Plaza Cutlery.

Change can be a good thing. I expect that we'll see some more interesting collaborations with CRKT, too.

Hey, Ken--good of you to chime in and shed some light on this. I have to say this doesn't come as much of a surprise, though, since I heard about the split with Kershaw at SHOT...and saw you chatting it up over at the CRKT booth. :p

Really cool design, and while it's sad that Kershaw won't be getting any more models with your touch for now...I'm really excited about where this will go. I think Kershaw will get a bit of a lineup revamp, and CRKT will get the quality and prestige boost that it really needs. I think that both companies will see a lot of benefit from this in the long run...though CRKT does seem to be getting the better end of the deal!

very nice Ken.

The clip is inlaid slightly into the handle and was placed in this config because the knife is very slim and by bending and inlaying the clip this way it is gives the user a wider berth to lay there thumb across when using . I think you will need to roll one in your hand a bit to understand why everything was done the way it was. It all has a purpose.
The total thickness of this knife from the center is only .302 and where it is scalloped on the outer edges it is only .204 . I wanted to make a series of knives that were gentlemanly enough for gentlemen and tactical enough for tactical use so,gentleman/ tacticals= Genticals ;). Something that would be great for everyday as well as church on sunday. Something that was very thin and light and easy to carry yet large enough to get the job done when called upon. The scallops help reduce weight yet the ribbing give the knife grip and most importantly stiffness and support. I have taken a minimalist approach to this knife and feel I am breaking relatively new ground here . I hope you will study this knife and see that there is a reason for everything.
This knife is super easy to carry and fun to roll around in your hands.

Thanks, Ken
That all makes good sense when you explain it that way. I really am looking forward to getting one of these so I can see what you mean once I get a chance to play with it.

Thanks for the response, Ken. Good luck with this model:thumbup:

Well, putting all the BS in this thread aside, I really like the design. It is slim, easy to EDC and the blade will cut stuff nicely. That is what it is all about guys. How a knife performs. Leave the business end of this stuff to those involved. Sometimes the forums are worse that a bunch of old ladies who have their panties in in a knott over something that is none of their business. :p

Heat treated stainless steel is stronger than Ti and has higher wear resistance. IMHO, Ti is over-rated, it's only good for reducing weight.

Yeah, that. Ken Onion rocks. He will improve CRKT's reputation with his designs.

I was perusing A.G.'s site (great site BTW) and stumbled upon this! I'm saddened to think that he left Kershaw for CRKT, as I've always found Kershaw's products to be far superior to CRKT's in every way, but perhaps he'll bring additional credibility to some of CRKT's products. His CRKT design looks interesting, though I have no clue what Acuto+ steel is or how it performs.

looks nice, i have always liked ken onion's designs.

my crkt experiences have not been good ones, but i think i will give this one a try.

btw, congrats on going gold!
