Kershaw Knives News Thread

Jeremy, how does the flipper work on that JYD II. I am trying to decide if I'm going to buy one. Great pics by the way.

THanks, but my photography skills are seriously lacking. I'll take better photos when the JYD passaround are finished.

The Flipper is so nice, you would swear its a speedsafe knife! Really Awesome! For a big knife, the JYD is surprisingly easy to handle and control. Buy it and you'll agree.

I really love the Groove too. And I look forward to the NRG and the Needs Work, among about 8 more Kershaws coming out...(ZDP CYCLONE!!!) :D

I am sad to hear that there are no new variations on the Bump theme on the horizon, though I have most that are available. I am excited about the new G-10 Offset. The design on the handle of the current Offset is not my favorite, so I bought two. One to keep stock, and one to customize. I'm stripping the scales and buffing out the blade a little. I've heard some pros and cons on the stud lock. I love it. I have never had a problem with any knife not made in China or Pakistan coming unlocked. I have my concerns, as I would rather not cut myself. I have actually come closer to hurting myself closing knives than I have when using them. That's one of the reasons that I love the Stud lock so much, it is very easy to close one handed.
Anyway, I will be voting with my dollars, which I believe is how these things get resolved. We buy it, they make more of it. Enjoy

I'm ready to buy an NRG as soon as it comes out- that video on Equiped to Survived sold me- I love the opening of the Leatherman knives and this looks to be even better. I also like the use of Aus 8 over 440A. I'll probably go with the small version mainly because I don't like to carry an over 3 ounce folder for EDC. Can anyone tell me how thick the small NRG is? I'm assuming its thicker than a leek, but I hope not by too much.

Solstice, from what I've read, the NRG is Sandvik 13C26 steel, not Aus 8. They are both better than 440. I'm pretty sure its thicker than the leek, but also a ltiile longer. I'll get the small NRG too!

nygiantsfan3342, Thomas W or anyone,

May I ask you to post a picture about the lockup of the JYDs? Thanks in advance.

The JYDs I had are gone on a passaround now. Hopefully, someone participating will take photos of the lockup. Redguy, I can assure you that they have EXCELLENT lock up! The small Junkyard Dog is a framelock, and is as strong as any framelock could be, and locks up ptight. The Large JYD2 is a liner lock, but locks up as tight as a frame-lock. The Liner engages fully, centered right under the blade. The liner is almost as thick as the Zero Tolerance Liner locks!

Keep an eye on these threads for more pics:

Here's the lockup on the current JYD2 passaround model.

Edited to add: Opening this knife is addictive, it flips great.

Thank you very much! Looks like a nice, beefy blade. Is it around 0.125 or more? What do you think about tip strength?

ETA on the JYDs for the rest of us ELUs? :D

I believe they should be in full production by late Feb/early March. Looks like ya'll will get one before I get my passaround JYDs back :(

Guess I'll have to play with some other knives until then (cough, ZDP Cyclone, cough):D

Blade stock thickness at the lockup/flipper tab area is 1/8". I think the tip strength will be fine, in part due to the width of the blade.

Could somebody post pictures, or direct me somewhere, where I could see what the JYD models and flippers look like with the knife closed?

Would also be interested in the factory edge geometry .... if someone could measure approximate bevel width and thickness just behind the edge that'd be great.

Thanks.

nygiantsfan - appreciate the reply, however I'm looking for pictures with the blades closed. Like to see what the in pocket profile will be before I buy. Would also like to see the same with the Needs Work, if possible. Thanks for any help.

Sorry Dog, here is the pic of the knives closed. Sorry I didn't have anything in the pic for scale, but when I get the knives back from the passaround I will take a buch of pics.

Thank you very much, NYG (and no apology necessary.) That wider, rounded flipper on the JYDs looks like a much friendlier design than others I'm used to. I like the way it's more "tucked in" with the overall profile of the handle .... since I carry my cash and cards in my right front pocket, I don't like anything that can snag or scrape my hand.
