Kershaw Knives News Thread

How about both? I mean, I love a 4 inch for flipping at home and a 3 inch for carrying for utility. I can EDC a bali where I live. Plus, from what I heard, Spyderco is dealing with a legality issue and not a manufacturing issue. Plus, I think Kershaw could bring out a great design that comes in at a better price than the Smallfly or Morpho for that price range.

I just said manufacturing because the legality is holding up the manufacturing :P (I have heard contradicting things so I just chose one)

Both sizes would be good, but maybe not good for Kershaw if released at the same time, since for them balisongs are an unproven ... medium (word that how you will).

There is no lanyard hole on the Boa. Is there any way to add one? If not, has anybody tried running lanyard under the clip, just next to where it screws into the frame (on any knife)?

I'd like to carry the Boa in my firefighting turnout coat, but don't want to lose it--too easy for it to fall out of a pocket. The index opener works pretty well with gloves on (though the lock tends to slide too easily when not wanted to).

Thanks.

Max, let's see, it's late, but from what I can recall right now, the 440A models that will be changed to 13C26;
Blackout's, Whirlwind's, Leek's, Baby Boa, Centofonte/Onion's, Blur's.

habit, the Leek's haven't been changed over yet, still a month or so away.

Hey Thomas.
Will the new blades be marked that they are the new steel. Or is it pretty easy to see the difference? I'm going to replace my Blackout and probably my 440 leek.

One of the knives I've been EDC'ing is a cheap knife (beretta), and I've been wanting to upgrade to a better steel. But I couldn't find something close enough in handle shape to match, cause it rides vertically next to my wallet in my back pocket. But the Blackout w/ new steel would be the perfect knife for what I want. Lookin for ward to it.

I'm glad this thread was started. To be honest with you I've always carried Spyderco's, that was until I discovered the Ricochet. I picked up one about a year ago and liked it so much I decided to give the titanium Bump a re-try. Needless to say I really dig that knife now in Gray, in fact it's become my edc, aint left the pocket for three weeks:) . I liked it so much I bought a Speed Bump with the aluminum handles yesterday. The fit and finish on all three (and the polished G-10 Leek I bought but sold) is excellent. Ken Onion is one hell of a designer and as I'm never going to be able to afford a custom of his, his collab with Kershaw is cool. All have come razor sharp out of the box. Now the only complaint is that Kershaw serrations suck, and I'm a SE kinda guy, though with re curve blades they are not missed too much:D . That said I'm sold on the brand, though I'll stick with Spyderco for serrations. Can we get a permanent forum here?;)
Cheers,
Rob

wotanson, I just got turned onto Kershaw recently myself. It was the Spec Bump that got me to cross over. Now I have nothing but Kershaw.
"Kershaw serrations suck, and I'm a SE kinda guy" Have you checked out the serrations on the ZT0200ST and the ZT0400ST ?

I am not interested in a Balisong knife, or as we called them growing up, a butterfly knife. I've never seen a well made butterfly knife, but I understand they do exist. To me they've always been in the same category as Switchblades. Kind of gimmicky. Exactly the kind of thing that cops don't like. Since this is a forum, I thought I'd cast my vote even though it is not in favor of Balisongs from Kershaw.

rnr, The blades will not be marked when we change over the steel, and you won't be able to see the difference either. We will have to go by the "born on date" as the way to determine the blade steel. I'll keep you posted with those so to keep the confusion to a minimum.

aa & wotanson good to have you both aboard:thumbup:

As Isaacson and Glesser have experienced before you:

Could we please have a bali with a JYD-styled blade and that 13C26 steel?

Your company is on the right track Thomas, I just bought a Junkyard Dog II and love it. It is a great knife for the money and that can be said about many of the models you are currently producing. We would rather pay more for better materials and designs in production knives rather than get marginal materials at a cheaper price. As long as Kershaw keeps moving in the current direction, I and others will be loyal customers.

Thank You Kershaw!

Will Kershaw make a large folder with a 4.0" or bigger blade? I would certainly buy one and I think many others would as well.

panman, no thank you!
Now that 4" category is not typically known as a volume mover. We do have some ZT folders that are right there, but nothing new on the table for Kershaw. I'll throw it around at the next new products meeting though, maybe a boutique run?

Thomas, why won't you start making Avalanche with uncoated blade again? It would be a fine folder for an EDC (probably the best by Kershaw) but black coating is unacceptable in public environment. The steel is stainless so why are you manufacturing the Tungsten DLC version only?

Ditto on an uncoated Avalanche or Blackout. I've found that the black blade intimidates some people. I for one like the contrast between the black handle and satin blade.

Alot of the questions that I've heard have to do with what knives Kershaw has made in what variations of blade steel and handle material over what period of time. To my thinking this is exactly what an Archive is for. I don't know if anyone else is interested, perhaps a pdf download from the Kershaw site? I don't know if the information that I'm thinking of actually exists anywhere, but I'm interested.
