Kershaw Tilt...again.

I got my credit card renewed, but it would be nice if this was released in 2011 given that it was shown at the 2010 blade show, and thus it would be embarrassing to see it in 2012:thumbup:.

I thinking thinking the Volt 1 was mostly blems and very limited. But, oh well I guess I'll give up on the Tilt.

That would be better than what happened with the Speedform. Very small run and no blems. I'm just sad that I didn't get one.

I am liking what they are doing with the 0551. That is making more than they first said they would. Started out 1000 now we are up to 1400 or more.

How many Tilts are there going to be? Thought I read only 500 to 600 is that right? I am sure they could sell 3 or 4 times that if they made them. Think Tyrade make them slow and steady over 2 years. Then make some G10 ones for 1/2 prices. :) I'm just dreaming now.

If I give up on the Tilt, then it will probably be out next week and with no problems. So, I'm doing you guys a favor!

I wonder what the hold up is. Are they produced and just haven't shipped for some reason, or do they just take a while to make? I hope they don't wind up making even fewer than planned.

I haven't followed up on Kershaw as long as some of you, but I believe this is the first 9% vanadium steel they've ever used, at least that I can recall. I suspect machining that might test one's patience to the breaking point, even if it's just the edge. The KVT is also an uncertain element.

They made a limited run of Shallots in S110V a few years ago, so it's likely not solely a grinding issue with the high vanadium steel. But I'm sure Vanax 75, with its very unique makeup -- not only the high vanadium content but also the fact that it has nitrogen replacing carbon as the primary hardening element -- carries challenges all its own. And since this is the first production knife ever to use the stuff, they're likely learning a lot as they go along. Combine that, as you mentioned, with the fact that this is the first folder to use KVT, as well as the composite blade, and this is a very ambitious project with a lot of new technology and materials in it.

Ack.....Everytime I see this thread at the top I get a glimmer of hope.........

I don't believe this is the case, Thomas specifically stated that they made 1,088 of them, the rest were blems or didn't pass QC. They have not continued to make 0551s like many seem to be reporting.

I'm not a Facebooker. Has there been any new information? One of my preorder dealers won't even return my emails anymore because the last they told me is that when they know, I'll know.

I have to admit I got a chuckle out of this. :p
