Mosaic pins
Should get it drilled and heattreated this weekend

Very nice! Someone is going to be a very happy chef. Maybe even their wife will be happy too!

Man with all of these knives being made, I'm so excited to see what I get. Very excited to also get the one I'm making done. Hope someone is happy with it.

I'm Christof Harper.

the handle is just what I've been on the intarwebs wince 1995.

I Do Stuff (this is the official job description my wife gave me)- some hiking, though I'm 1.5 years ahead of CShepherd in the kids department, my son is old enough now that he insists we go camping. I have been known to hunt, and to boat. (currently trying to figure out how big the next boat has to be to fit a knife shop onboard), some construction, some gardening, and I'm an avid bike mechanic. I also cook. kinda used to do it professionally for large groups, but these days I just make lots of leftovers.

I just do stuff.

I would like to post some pictures of the type of knife I will be making but I have never posted pics here......... little help:grumpy:

Ok I think I got it. Did get a membership and uploaded. Take a look and let me know.

ok now its my turn for pictures. the knife is not done dont wory i just thought you would like to see some updates. the handle is cocobolo and fits very very nice in the hand it does not want to leave but it must. the blade is made from a file. some people say why use a file when you have a 8" x 36" x 1/8" sheet of CPM 154 at your house. well the file that i used has been with me a very long time and has made a lot of knifes and i thought it would be cool to pass some of that history on to ????????????. so take a look and tell me what you think. the blade has under gone my secret ageing process and then buffed so it very shiny. the gard it wrought iron that has been forged and ground to shape. it will be etched using the same process as the blade. so here thay are, be kind

o ya the handle still has its 60 grit finish thats why it looks the way it does

that sure is going to be nice, love the handle shape.

And Jimbo- that's a really sweet folder!

Now I'm getting nervous about my patch hiker again. Yall blow me out of the water.

somthing about fileing a tang slot relaxes me. but sometimes its just a huge stress hopeing that it fits just niceley. Jimbo that is very cool, what kind of scales did you use

Little more sanding and polishing and hone to shaving sharp and mine will be ready for some one. 4" blade of 5160 with a bit of file work. Hidden tan with brass guard and buffalo horn spacer followed with some ziricote and a brass cap. Pictures this weekend if all goes well.

Here's a little sneak peek... cable damascus :D

two knives, almost identical, profiled, flat ground, awaiting HT. one is for my friends birthday (in two days! eek!::eek:) and the other for a certain someone :)

This is what I'm working on for "someone". Cable damascus (ala Mr. Cantrell). I put a light etch on it. I'm going to finish the tang and then get more of the scratches out before HT. I haven't decided on the guard material yet, but I am leaning towards elk antler for the handle. I might use a piece of wrought iron for the guard.

By the way, this is my first cable damascus knife. I welded the cable up about a year ago, and then forged it into a blade back in April.

Approximate lengths.
3-7/8" cutting edge
about 4-1/2 from tip to guard

Tomorrow my project knife will be RC tested by good ol' dad. It may be a tad harder than I was shooting for, so I may have to temper it again at a higher temp. Anyone have a suggested temp for RC 57-58 for O-1? I'm pretty sure it's sitting at 60-61 RC now. Thanks for any help. The knives I've seen so far on here are just fantastic!

Here's what I'll be sending out. Made it about a year ago --
I've got to cheat this year -- there's no way I'd get a new one
finished in time.

O1, convex ground, 3 5/8" to the guard, 8" overall.
Handle is the first piece of Mike Spenger's stabilized
maple burl I got with a copper guard and small mosaic
pin. The burl is much lighter than it looks in these pics.

I have to learn to make sheaths one of these days. That's
why it was still here. Maybe I'll get my first one made in
time, but maybe not.

AH!:grumpy: both blades went PING! when i quenched. tisk tisk. i think iv had enough of the 1080 im using. ill be forging out some good old 5160 tomoro and remaking both of them. im so upset, i need to rethink what im doing with the 1080, thats three out of 4 that have cracked.:jerkit:
i'll be using some black felt mycarta with red liner when i get the new blades done.

all these knives look awesome! im so exited!
