Knives you WON'T own anytime soon.

*Spyderco's - don't like 'em mainly due to Wal-Mart
*One handed folders with bolsters - they look silly
*Knives made outside of the U.S.A. (one exception being Victorinox)
*Fantasy knives - I just don't get it
*Dark Ops - they look like toys for a 10 year old

Hey bro, I'm not bashing you at all.

All I'm saying is, done correctly, cord wrapped handles are hard to beat for comfort and grip.

Dude, I know you're not bashin' me... all you are saying is that I have an uneducated opinion of cord wrapped handles and that if I knew better, I would appreciate and value them. I understand, and my offer still stands. If anybody ever gives me one, I will give it to you. And since our relationship is deepening through continued correspondence, I insist on paying the shipping.

Did I mention that I don't really like wood scales either? If you do, the same deal applies.

Nick

A knife I won't own anytime soon?

A Randall, because it will be another 2 years before mine arrives!

I'll play.
-anything that's primary purpose is MBC
-any company that thinks it's OK to infringe upon intellectual property(BM, Gerber, Coldsteel, etc...)
-anything that's too big to comfortably carry day-to-day without raising too many eyebrows
-anything with AO(just not my thing)

Looks like I can remove part of what I originally posted :D

Damn you BFC, my pocketbook hasn't been the same! ;) :D

Strider, I have heard many complaints recently about QC. I don't want to send my brand new knife in to get it fixed because they won't bother with it the first time around.

Since this thread was brought up again, I'd just like to ask people to stay away from the very obvious to make this a meaningful thread. (like, I won't by pakistani fantasy knives.....)
Thank you.

Ever handled a Strider?

I've never had a problem with any Strider I've purchased.

Still, I find it disheartening when I hear the number of complaints. They can't even take the care to ship their knives in some kind of padding, or provide a tool to adjust the pivot? I like knowing that care is taken when knives are made, like the care CRK exhibits, for instance.

kerambits are useful if you are an electrician and need to make slits in rubber coatings...

that's about it for kerambits
wont buy:
anything over 150
I just got a spring assist knife...it is now a gift for someone else to destroy
No bokers...not sure why...
no otf knives...had a very bad experience with a cheap dalton ripoff cutting my hand up bad enough to need stitches...

I don't understand people knocking benchmade, I'm rocking a mini-ambush right now and i love it (could be that I don't know better on account of only owning 12 knives in my whole life most of which were totally awful things including some crappy autos from a site which sells them dirt cheap)

...but seriously why no benchmade people?

phil

I refuse to buy:

poor quality stainless steel.
Anything over $150, fixed or folder.
Gerber
spyderco models that are ugly as hell
spyderco "byrd" line
kerambit
any blade with a stupid recurve
any serrated blade
any half serrated blade .....completely disgusting:barf:
anything cheaply made in a cheap country
fake stag handles
alot of ugly traditional knives with stag and bone handles.
sharpened prybars
most coated blades (I like Busse's coatings)
Buck knives
Anything with a thick edge
balisongs
cord wrapped handles that are poorly done
anything with large lettering on it
Brass
Gut hooks
any knife thats advertised as a super mankiller tactical de-animator (cold steel, dork ops)
anything with brightly colored or jackson Pollock-esque paint splattered handles (Daltons)
shallow grinds
wide fullers
sharp protruding buttcaps/pommels
Italian stilettos - most I've seen have fat edges, uneven grinds and are poorly constructed, even the knives from well known makers.

There are actually very few production knives out there that I like.

WOW, I can't believe how...picky (for lack of a better word) a lot of posters here are! Not that there's a problem with that, I just didn't expect there to be that many people who won't buy knives with metal handles, or wood handles, or AO, or cord wrap, or serrations, etc...

Apparently I'm just a knife whore, because I think I own one of about everything that people here won't buy. :D

Really though, I feel that all of the different types of knives described in this thread have different purposes, and about the only thing that I won't buy are knives that I know I won't use. Just my .02 ;)

I think it's cool, because all the different types of knives that are liked and disliked by the people here show the diversity of the crowd we have here, and it shows that people just have different tastes.

Nothing under $45.00 any more. Cheap knives might have their place, but I have enough.

Nothing from Pak, China, or anywhere else I don't care for.

Nothing from Taylor, Dork Ops, Cold Steel, etc.

Nothing over $500.00 because above there is safe queen/wall hanger territory.

No fixed blade stainlesses.

Nothing with tiger striping or other ridiculous camoflague attempts on the steel.

No locking folder of any design that is right hand carry only.

No liner locks.

No kris, karambit, persians, tantos, or other generally useless patterns.

No more puukkos, (I found I like having a guard).

No swords, because 1911A1s have been beating them in CQB for nearly a century.

No fantasy blades.

No non-steel knives.

Why the hatred for assisted openers?
I don't really hate them. I just happened to have one break on me in about a month of use. To me, it's just something to go wrong in what is usually considered a pretty simple tool.

Hey, man.....
All assisted openers ARE NOT created equal. Ken Onion's / Kershaws Speedsafe are a patented mechanism, therefore the others must be at least slightly different.
