Knives you WON'T own anytime soon.

...but seriously why no benchmade people?

I feel Benchmade didn't do right by Spyderco with the Skirmish and it made me sell the BMs I had and put them on my list of knives I won't buy. Truthfully, it probably bothers me more that they make good knives and still don't give credit where it was due. Some of the copy-cat companies out there that make crap don't surprise me by their business tactics. I thought BM was better than that. To me, it's low-brow and even if they gave credit now or in the future, it's tainted due to the fact they didn't just do the right thing in the first place. Just my opinion, but it's not likely to change.

Hey, man.....
All assisted openers ARE NOT created equal. Ken Onion's / Kershaws Speedsafe are a patented mechanism, therefore the others must be at least slightly different.

I had one, but it wasn't for me. That said, I'd probably consider a Ti or G-10 Leek as I think they're pretty cool in spite of the AO.

Not a fan of kris' or kerambits so I can't see ever owning those or anything thats fully serrated with the exception of a saw.

anytihng i dont like.

but anytihng fantasy or made in other than the usa, has a particular place of hatred in my heart.

Kap

Strider
CRK
Busse
Swamp Rat
ATC
Emerson
anything advertised as 'high speed', my ID says Army, not my knife
AOs
linerlocks
3V, O1, anything that rusts quickly
fantasy
big logos/writing on blade
limited runs where everybody buys 10 and ebays 9

There was a thread in traditional knives forums discussing how many who post here refuse to use slipjoints. Might wanna take a peek.

My list.

-Tantos
-Very thick bladed folders (A 110 is about as thick as I go, even that seems like a lot)
-SAK knock-offs
-Combo edge folders with short blades (NO CE Delicas for me)
-Folders with no metal liners and the FRN handles are easily bendable. Hate that feeling, though many companies can pull off a good liner-less folder that I'll buy.
-I don't see myself spending over 100$ for a folder unless I design myself a custom. Sorry, but I don't see anything in that price range that offers THAT much more function to things I can get for 30$.
-A knife that I won't use or don't intend to use. Users are the only thing in my collection and I think it's pretty sad we even have a colloquial set of terms to seperate working knives from non-working knives. The only knives I see reason to make safe queens are ones with extremely high sentimental value, even those I'd like to take out here and there.
-Full Size LM type multitools (There might be a time later in life I have a use for them, but as it stands I'll take a 3 or 4 layer SAK to them anyday)
-Fixed blades with full guards
-Double edged blades
-Liner Lock knives where the liner is thin enough to rest between the tang and the handle. I consider this one of the most illogical things done in modern knife manufacturing and presents an obvious safety hazard should the liner move over that far)
-Cold Steel (Seem to have some good knives, but I don't like their marketing focus so I choose to not support them)
-Guthooks
-Paraframe type of handles
-Any knife available in plain 440C or similar with a version in S30V or similar for double the price. Gimme the 440C please.
-SOG, Dark Ops and a few others (Companies that have no knives that appeal to me based on photos and descriptions I've seen)
-Blood grooves

Long enough, I'll probably think of more later.

1 a sebenza - nothing against Chris Reeve, his folders are just not for me. 2 anything not made in the USA I wont carry for an EDC. 3 no cheapy knives.
4. nothing smaller than a 3" blade for a folder.

Can you please give an example as to where this is used? I hope you're not referring to something like M2HS steel, which is called high speed because of its machineability..

Busse and Swamp Rat cause I can't browse their entire line and order a knife at my leisure. For the prices and wait, I can get a custom, especially with the knifemakers on BF.

CRK is too expensive. You pay for an incredible level of F&F, more than I feel is necessary on a tool.

Emerson (and Strider) is just a specific example of the high speed comment. High speed in the military pretty much equates to bad ass, or just high performance. Thing is, you'll see a hundred Gerber multitools, S&W knives, and Cold Steels in a soldier's hands before you spot a Commander or an SMF, and you probably need 300 servicemen to see those hundred knives. Names that have appeared in this thread many times are exactly what our forces carry (mostly because that's what's sold in the PX). Soldiers don't have any special insight into good cutlery. I guarantee most of them wouldn't see a difference if they got a Dark Ops or a Trident.

Oh, and I love M2, my M2 Rittergrip is awesome. :D

How did benchmade not "do right" by spyderco?

the Skirmish was designed by Neil Blackwood, here's the custom version:

see a pattern?

sorry for the thread drift.

Wenger SAKs... just don't like 'em... gave away the only one i ever had, and it was a gift
CKRT, i just don't like anything i've seen from them
Gerber Multitools

and apparently Busse and Swamp Rat... geez the only Busse available is a sword? come on... i guess it depends on when the M7 is available, i'll try to pick one up

anything that says made in pakistan unless its free.
Everything from Spyderco. They are just so darned FUGLY. I know they work ok I have sharpened a few of my friends.
any switchblades (got me in trouble before)
Case (again havent liked one yet)
Gerber crappy edge holding ability on all I have used.
CRK Sebenza (way too much money for a folder dont care how tight it is still a folder)
SAK wannabes
anything with a guthook on it.
ill find a few more later

Nimick brings up an excellent point. Benchmade was only collaborating with Neil Blackwood. It doesn't mean you should necessarily shun their whole product line because of two knives.

Well, for me, I won't buy any Cold Steel, or CRKT, or cheap and crappy knives like S&W.

Knives I won't go for:
Fantasy Knives
Daggers (can't carry one and have no real need to carry one. I will admit that there are some nice models floating around)
El-Cheapo multi-tools
Balisongs- I don't have any need for them, and I can operate a standard folder much faster
The new Leatherman knives.

No more medium choppers. My Camp Tramp barely gets used because it is too big and scary for regular carry (or most tasks) and I have found almost no uses for it around the house. Sometime I wack at brush, but that's about it. I would like a real chopper like golok or parang or something for the brush. My Fox River does everything else...

150 must be the magic number cuz I'd never spend more than that on a pocketknife.

I considered a Sebenza once, then decided to buy a Smith & Wesson 638 (that's an airweight J-frame, shrouded hammer revolver chambered in .38 S&W Special +P) for the same price!!! (about $385)

After that, my biggest pet peeve is knives (folders) that leave the pivot end (tang?) of the blade exposed when closed (i.e. : Spyderco Para-Military, Benchmade Presidio)
I like the corners to be covered when closed (i.e. :Benchmade 710, Spyderco Military)
