Knock-Off, Counterfeit, Fake Bucks & The Americans Who Sell Them

I think the federal version of "three strikes' applies to "violent" felonies. The statute had something about violence in its title.

The "Three Strike Law" is a State Statute, not a Federal Law. It is designed to impose harsher sentences on persons convicted of three or more serious criminal offenses, Violent or not.

WTG Plumb.

Because the faker's activity is a felony I wonder how many vendors already have two strikes against them so that this enterprise, once busted & convicted, is their ticket to ride out the remainder of their days in custody? It can't really seem worth the risk for what is left on these sales.

I would bet that 99% of the Esellers hocking these fakes will never get caught or see the inside of a court room. Even if the Auction site closes their listing down it doesn't mean that they will prosecute them. It's up to Buck Knives to file those charges and if they don't or won't nothing will happen to them and they will have another listing up tomorrow in another name. Just look at the listings, its funny that they all have identical listings but different "Esellers" coming out of the same providence of China.

Not one of the knives I've posted came directly from sellers in China. Each and every one was bought from a seller based here in the USA. Each and everyone was told before hand and even furnished proof that the knives were fake.

I purchased them for the express reason of leaving negative feedback for the sellers, which hurts them and gets the point across. After giving one seller two negatives under different eBay ID's, he quit selling knives completely! I've kept track and he has not to this point listed another unless he's added another ID of his own. I don't mind spending the few $$$$'s it takes to cause them some grief.

On occasion, like oregon said, I've had sellers thank me for the info and shut the auctions down themselves, but that doesn't happen often.

There are state "three strikes" laws, but we are discussing federal crime to which federal, not state, law applies.

Two more fakes. The Alpha is about the best I've seen. The blades are actually stamped instead of etched. Even the Bos symbol on the other side is stamped.

Here's a comparison photo showing a real Alpha Hunter (the bottom one) with the fake. You may be able to see that the jimping on top of the blade extends further towards the butt on the real version and the deer cutout in the blade is larger (and more oval) than on the fake. The topper is that the fake measures 7 7/8" long vs 8 1/4" for the real version.

1. For better or worse, I posted that the federal three strikes law would not seem to apply as it is for "violent" felonies.

2. You don't get to select between differing three strikes law in a federal case. Only the federal law applies.

Here's another one that's common. There was a thread a couple of years ago where Bill Keys said that this one was a problem because the original was made for Buck for the RMEF in China.

"This may or may not be legitimate. We did have these produced for the RMEF a while ago, and they were manufactured in China. However, these have also been a favorite of the counterfeit sellers. We have seen these pop up on numerous sites (many in China). The problem is, since the originals were made in China and they do such a good job copying, the counterfeit ones look exactly like the legitimate ones and both are made in China. Best thing to do is to ask how the person selling it acquired it. If it was from a web site, I would be leary. If it was from a "brick and mortor" store in the US, then probably ok, or if from the RMEF itself, then ok.

Counterfeiting a charity knife!

Why don't you just kick me in the groin... Is nothing sacred?

I have also started contacting sellers to let them know I believe the knife is a counterfeit/fake and reminding them that there are rules and laws against selling them. So far having only gotten one response, "THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN, which was from fishermancraig702. I guess being listed as BEST OFFER and free shipping, I might start offering 1 cents each day of the listing. Or maybe buy it an send a fake check or money order written out on toilet paper. Fake pay for a fake knife should balance out.

He's a hard headed one. oregon told him about the fakes he was selling and so did I under one of my eBay ID's. When he responded that they "were what they were" and continued listing them, I bought one under a different ID. If you check his feedback, you'll see the negative that I left for him. eBay refunded my money as soon as I filed a dispute and since he wasn't willing to pay the shipping cost back to him, he told me to keep the knife. It's the bottom knife in post #58.

Give it a try, it works and that's not the first time I've done that with sucess.

I did see the feedback where you had zapped him. Good for you, I suspect now that I have told him and he has my email it would not work for me to buy the knife. I would have done it prior to the email I sent. Got some other sellers I can do it to or maybe some others here on the blog. At some point it becomes unprofitable to the and/or their negative feedback will bury them If 10 or so of us did it together that is. Count me in.

He's probably blocked you from bidding on his auctions by now. I always give the seller the chance to remove the listings before I go after them. Either myself or someone else that I know contacts them about the fakes and what happens then depends on their response.

Where is BUCK, INC. in all this? I think 3-4% of BUCK knives on eBay are now counterfit. Ultimately it's their responsibiity but the company seems pretty quiet on the issue. I wonder what BUCK Inc. is doing that we don't know about. I would love to hear someone from the company speak on the issue. I only collect BUCK so that's my knowledge base. Do other knife brands have the same counterfit problem on eBay?
