Las Vegas are knife makers

Dave , at the next session , we will do more grinding and less showing around our work.

Dave , Bruce and Tim each brought some of their work , had a nice mini show in the shop. As usual I didn't have anything finished , had a couple close and one or two of my users that I finished last year.

Dave's handle work is extremely clean , as were the 1911 grip panels he made. Hopefully those belts will fit your grinder bud , if not you can cut em at the seam and use em for shop rolls.

Bruce , be sure and check out USAKnifemaker.com and look at the no weld grinder plans that Tracey offers , give you much more versatility that the coote or the Grizzly.

Bruce makes some seriously tuff fixed blades , and his cord wrap and silk wrap handles are very clean.

Tim brought about 5 knives he had recently finished that were nicely done and had kydex sheaths.

We will have to make a night to just concentrate on the leather work , and step thru the process.

Looking forward to our next get together. Maybe we can get Don to drive in from Pahrump .

Our get together turned out great. All ya'll who didn't make it missed out on a nice time. I learned a lot about grinding blades. (thanks, John).

Yeah I have come to the conclusion that if I'm ever going to have a life again I am going to have to change careers. I'm sick of working a rotating shift.

yeah those shifts can get old , but considering the economy , its good to still be working !

I did rotating days off for a year , 1 week work everyday but Tues & Wed , following week only work Tues & Wed , 12 hour shifts....days for 3 month , swing for 3 , graves for 3 month... hated it ! Then I went to traveling for 20-24 days a month... being away from my grinder killed me , after 5 years I am now to where I am steady day schedule , weekends off and home by 4:30 daily :)

Hopefully you can make the next one.

John and Brad,

I think I may actually have made a real knife blade (thanks to your help).

What do you think?

And thanks to everyone here who offered advice and encouragement.

It's just a small blade but I didn't think I would ever get this far.

John started the grinding and I finished it (at least I think it's finished).

Now for HT ????

Dave, looks pretty good to me for your first one. Your handle shaping is awesome. Bruce, you make some pretty wicked looking blades there. Great to meet you guys Saturday.

Tim

Tim,

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Hopefully one day I'll make something as nice as the knives you guys make.

If I can get a couple more done then I won't feel so bad about it saying "knifemaker" under my name. :)

I also thought it was an outstanding link up. I hope next time more folks will drop by. By the way.....all are invited next time....from grinders to forgers and even likers! So Jason next time we hope to see you and bring the Good Dr. with you. We won't bug him too much.

John, you are an awesome host...thanks for all the help and advice (and thanks for the knife too!!!) that you share with us new guys.

Tim, you are the man! Great stuff and killer kydex work too. Very helpful as well. Thanks again.

Jimmy, we hope to see you next time also.

Dave, we have some work to do now I guess. I enjoyed the company!

Good time had by all!!!!

Brad

Need to have your bring your knives over again and snap some picts of them bud. I had the D-SLR in the leather room and never thought to grab it. Next time I will take a few snaps.

Next time....ok , when ? :)

We can do it over here if you would like. I have abit more room but my shop is not as well seasoned as John's is. Pick a date Ladies :D

fixed that for ya bud , since I am sure that is what you meant.

This Saturday is not good for me as I am putting on the chauffers hat and driving JT and his date to/from the prom in dad's Lincoln (haven't decided on using the 66 or the 2008 )

:p:D

Prom huh??? Good for him. make sure you have some Kleenex for Trish. Bet a few tears will be shed. Make sure you send me some pics.

Hey Tim....are you interested in some 1080..(3/16" x 1.5"..apprx. 6' long for about 27 bucks?

Brad

BV:

I dunno when I will be free again, as my "working time" of the year is just started..(I am a aerial application specialist) and I am starting to get ran ragged...so I may be out of the loop for a while.

As for Dr Jim..He's an odd bird, and it is hard to get him out of his studio for much of anything, unless it's something he is really interested in..besides the man is very busy and that is a nice thing given the state of the economy right now. He's hard to get to know as he tends to stay to himself and his family. Not a bad way to be I guess...Once you do get to know him he's a great fellow.

I will be showing up from time to time now that it's the busy time of my year, Now until Fall...I MAY be able to make it to a get together if I can, all depends upon when and my schedule.

Jason
