Let me be the first on 2008 to ask

Hi everybody! I want to make my first knive. I got some old files, this awesome sword I got off QVC that broke, a door for a '47 DeSoto, and a clock spring. I heard one time that files, car parts, knifes and springs all make good a good knive, so I'm gonna make damascus. I tried once with an old blowtorch and I got the metal REALL HOTT, then it got black, but i didn't work. For the tempering I have one of those Hibachi grills and some stuff I got from the grease pit at my Dad's garage. So I'm all set.

Can somebody tell me the most awesome sword design for cutting a car in half? I want to do this right!

Wow....You want HOW much for the knife ?

Cant I just buy one at wal-mart that's just as good ?

Hi i am 12 years old, i have a massive sword collection with many many antiques, through my extensive study of the japanese katana i have decided it was time to make my own. HOW DO I DO SO?!?? I have a bar of rebar steel from Home Depot, a plumber's torch(NOT JTH7), a roofer's hatchet/hammer and a pair of vice grips.

Which process makes a better knife, forging or stock removal? I heard that edge packing makes the steel at the edge more dense, is that true?

Should knives be facing magnetic north while normalizing or anealing to make sure the molecules line up correct?

I heard these all myself..I am glad I am not the only one who thinks they are amusing...

Let me add one....

Who Chrome plated the blade for you?

or

You MADE this knife, where did you get the blade?

Bruce

How long did this take to make?
Dont you have a real job?

WOW, you guys are killin me up here :D ROTFLMAO :D

Bruce, since your reply has hit closest to home for me I can't help but elaborate on it.

" How many knifes can you make in a day "   TRUE QUESTION ! :)

And the real job question ?
I have experienced honest to god animosity because of what I choose to do for a living. Sometimes I get the feeling that it really pisses some people off around here that I can actually make a buck only 10 steps out my front door and at the same time absolutely can't wait to go to "work" each and every morning ;)

GOD I LOVE MY JOB !! And yes, I yelled that :D

It is not just a feeling David sadly it just the truth . I will never understand why some people cannot stand to see someone prosper .

I know why Heatride! cuase they aint prosperin the way they want to... dontchya just love being the focus of someones own self loathing? any who I'll add my own.

"I found a road kill Raccoon, can i use that to quench my period specific Lowes treadplate sheetmetal dagger?"

"I have an old shovel, can i make a battle axe out of it, can you guys help me design it?"

I just made my first knife- a Davey Crocket style Bowie knife. what is it worth and how do i sell it.

I got my first knife about made and I want to harden it. Can I use the wifes oven I have some oak flooring for the handle will this work well. My cousin siad that if I get it red and then put it is some bacon fat it would be best. Is this right. If so what kind of bacon slices or chunks. Should I put the handle on before or after the harding part.

Can I come over and watch you make a knife in a day?

You have how many hours into making this knife?

What are those wavy lines in the blade and how did you put them on it?????

Did you make that antler handle?...No The deer did "Here's your sign"

this thread is still cracking me up.
