Let me be the first on 2008 to ask

Ok, so i decided i want to make a sword. i watched the opening scene of Conan the barbarian where he pours the metal into a mold, cools it in the snow, and sharpens it with a stone. is there anything else i should know? where do i find the best metal?:)

Beautifull Hamon and the first question is can you get that stain out! I made a damascus knife a few years ago and my daughters boyfriend at the time ask her if as i got better i should be able to get rid of those lines right?

No fair you and Robert took my favorite ones!:D I will add one though... "Would Damascus steel be cheaper if you just drove to Damascus and picked it up???"
Can't forget: "I have a chunk of steel that fell off my Dad's combine last fall. Can someone tell me what kind of steel it is and how I can make a knife out of it? I'm worried about possibly taking the temper out of it."
 
I ht'd a knife today by heating it up in the fireplace and dunking it into the dog's water bowl. The file skates on the edge so it's hard, right?
 
I can pound one of those out in an hour or so... After asking how much a mosaic damascus bowie with 10" balde with fossil walrus ivory handle.

can i use a dimmer switch to control my grinders speed.

does a RR spike make a good knife.

why would any one pay that much for a hand made knife.

how much should i ask for this knife and how do you calculate knife prices.

My personal favorites are the "where do you buy your blades", "where do you buy your handles", "I can get just as good a knife for 35$ at Walmart"
 
I got a couple good ones at work the other day....

"So my brother wants some good steak knives and I told him he needs to talk to you. I told him how cool your stuff is and that your knives won't go dull."

It's cool to defy physics.

And this one:

"Hey Nick, you still making knives? I want one for my brother in law. I'm wanting to give it to him this next month... you could make me one for like $100 right?"

A guy came into the mill the other day and saw my Burnley Knives hat. "I like knives!!!" he said. "I went down to the farmer's market and there was a guy there selling knives for $400!!@#!@$!@#! Can you believe that?!?!?!? $400!!!!@#@$!@$!@!"

When I finally told him (after him bugging me about it for 25 minutes) my last dozen or so knives were all around 1k and up he just walked off. :grumpy:

Nick, You get $1000 for 1 knife?!!
How long does it take to make a knife like that? If I give you some wood for the handle and a piece of steel, could you make me one for around $100? Also, could you take pics of every step when you making it so I can see how its done? I want to start making $1000 knives too.
