Let's see your GEC #74 Mustangs

Received my 'Wormy Chestnut' yesterday. I like it, but I like my jigged bone MUCH better.

I appreciate the character and history behind the chestnut version. The bone version though is just a pleasure to hold and use.

Unfortunately for me, this a catch and release.

AL - You did good my friend. Hopefully by Friday I will be able to take a picture just like that.

Thanks, Ron! Looking forward to seeing your pics :)

Here it is with a sodbuster jr., and a Northwoods Madison Barlow, which I think is quite similar in shape, just a bit larger.

I can see a curved Barlow on the 74 frame someday.

I feel that I was very lucky to get the Grain and Color that I preferred without being able to choose . Yes , I would rather have been able to reserve the Elk , but I still like the Chestnut !!!!

That's beautiful Chestnut and a great group shot, Harry!

That pic always brings a smile... it's so much like us knife nuts :D

Here's mine. Can't really find anything but perfection with this knife.

Couldn't be happier with my Mustangs. Excellence all around!

Thanks for the kind words Al !!! You done good yourself !!! These 74s are all pretty nice !!! Someday I hope that I can buy one in Stag . Not right now , but someday . My goal is to get a Stag for each of the 23 , 42 , 72 , 73 , 74 , and 83s . Sure would have liked to have got one of the Elks this time too.

Harry

These arrived in the mail yesterday. Fit and Finish is great and I am pleased with the color and grain on the Chestnut. The Burnt Orange also has some great color to it. Another Big  for the folks at Great Eastern. :D

They look very good Ron! Are you going to call that a Worm Hole or a Nail Hole ?

Harry Thank you. You know I had not thought about it, the hole, that is! I think I will call it a plug. Since technically, the hole is no longer there, in my line of work we plug holes in tool steel for repairs all the time. I do think it adds character to the knife. I will have to say that IMO, AL has the best Chestnut 74 I have seen yet.:D

Thanks again everyone for the praises on the knife. Thanks also to ramrod for the offer. It was explained to me that those marks are stabilized worm holes. I would never have guessed it. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the knife holder.

I use my "oil sucker rod" panels as a conversation piece, the story and history. Aesthetically it is subjective. I think yours is nice, take care

I got my 74 yesterday. Beautiful chestnut covers. No worm holes for me, which I sort of prefer. But it is so close to the GEC Zulu and 72 patterns, that I think I'll pass this one on to my father-in-law.

Thanks for your input. I do understand that it came from old wood, and am really loving it in hand. I just can't seem to get over the "black sharpie" marks that I initially thought was on the knife when I first pulled it out of the tube.

The neat thing about traditionals is that they're unique. It's something that separates them from modern knives. No other #74 Mustang looks like yours or ever will.

Paul, that is gorgeous, and I think it will age beautifully! I can't wait to see pics as it ages.
