Looks like the k2s are being liquidated.....

Yup. our local knife shop called Spyderco to see if they could order more, person on the other end told them that the K2 had been discontinued...

Well I did my typical morning 3mi. trail hike today with the K2 along for trail clearing duties. I frequently must cut down Cholla cactus which encroaches on the trail. The K2 zipped right thru a meaty 1.25 inch cholla limb like it wasn't there! Lightly gripping the swell at the end and swinging it like a machete and it is quite the chopper.
By far the best EDC'able chopper I've used yet. It bumped the previous CCC (Champion Cholla Chopper) the Recon 1 into 2nd place.:)

Ok. Mine has mucho lock stick and a rattling lanyard tube. I'd be pretty disappointed if I paid full price. At least it's at 50% lock up. But for the price I think I'll take it to work and beat the hell out of it.

Got mine in yesterday, sent it back today.

Mine had an off centered blade and ridiculous lock stick. The lock wouldn't even fully engage unless it was flicked open. I would open it, adjust my grip and hear the "click" of the lock bar going from 20% to 90%.

The K2 felt more like a pre-production prototype than a fully fleshed out design, if that makes sense. Sharp corners, the lack of any jimping (which I could've lived with if it weren't for the ridiculous lock stick). If only a few small details were paid attention to, this knife could've been amazing. Sadly, that's not what we have here, which is probably why this knife is being discontinued.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about and I did the same thing as you with the knife, just more quickly - a few minutes inspection then it went back to the package and a usps flat rate box.

With the issues these are having I'm kinda glad I resisted as I live in Australia and return postage is a killer.

Looks like a blend of good and bad though so many will be happy.

Update. The lock up is indeed pretty late if I open it with any authority at all. If it travels enough I'll send it to spyderco.

I've owned a K2 for a good while, but almost never carry it. Seriously - what does the average guy do with this thing? Its certainly not an EDC knife. I'm not complaining. I knew what I was buying. But for most of us, this is a knife that's not going to get a lot of usage. Fun to play with, and fun to carry for a little while, then back to the knife drawer.

Different strokes for different folks. Mine won't be just sitting in a drawer. ;) I agree that it is too big for most people.

There is a Lil' K2 in the works for those that don't want a huge knife.

I got mine. Yes, it has late lock up. Yes, it has "Ridiculous", even "Epic" lock stick. Will I return it? Hell no! :D This is one of those knives that puts a smile on my face just opening it. It's a knife that's meant for doing some serious cutting, so a sticky lock should not be a big deal, in my opinion. It even rides better in my pocket compared to knives half the size.

I've had a couple K2's, I didn't take advantage of the sale but I certainly considered it!! It's just so broad! I'll be all over a smaller version.

Just what I've been thinking. I've been tempted by the low price currently available but what will I do with this knife ?. A smaller version might be of interest. The blade steel intrigues me.

There was a weird substance on the face of the lock bar. Maybe threadlocker or something. Or Maybe they put it there on purpose. After cleaning with lacquer thinner and toothpicks it's much less sticky now.

I EDC mine all the time, carried it today. I use it the same as I use say something like my delica except I can cut through thicker materials with less effort. From rope to string, zip ties, poly sheeting, and boxes it's just a better cutting tool that vastly outperforms 99% of all the knives I own.

Earlier today I saw Sal was in this thread. I'm genuinely curious about what's happening behind the scenes because of all the complaints about sticky locks. I'd love to see all the different gears moving because of what was said in this thread and others. I'm sure he's taking it very seriously. I just wonder what was said behind closed doors.

Yeah it's really a great user blade.

One of the 2 production blades I tested that cut over a linear mile of cardboard and still sliced phone book paper.

The other one is the S110V Military.

I am really enjoying this knife so far, it's a shame so many people have had problems with it. I will definitely be purchasing the smaller version when it comes out, and I'm curious what steel they will use in that one.
