Mick Strider has some explaining to do.

SNIPPED

I also make note that in the Strider posts (that I have seen on this topic), he has been carefull not to really openly claim to be or have done anything that would get him into fraud

Hence the thousand post thread about what a fraud he is.

You are out of your depth here. If this is some convoluted defense of Strider, I admire it as by far the most annoying one yet. I'd give it a "A" for its high concept, but a "D-" for its execution.

There is nothing quite like reading someone not managing attempted self-indulgent pseudo-intellectualism. :jerkit:

You've seen the original posting then, sans the red superimposition, correct?

Is there any other material difference between the red stamped one and the one you have seen?

The "why" as to whether it is immaterial that the red stamped one is authentic or "strider apporved" is that despite the red typeover, the underlying document is a spitting image for the one described by Beau Springer as the one he saw Mick employing in his own defense in 2005.

Eyewitness account of the MS DD-214 UFO:

The following was posted by Beau Springer on 07-21-2005

But of COURSE these are merely the feeble lies of Mick's scorned ex-wife who is looking for revenge, sworn testimony and risk of perjury charges be damned.....did I get that right, Striderettes?

DaQo'tah Forge aka Allan Molstad's posts always remind me what a wonderful place the internet is, where anyone can post his opinion, no matter how stoopid others may think it is, and can even go on posting that same opinion over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ... and where no one else has to keep reading. If you go on reading his posts after the first one or two you encounter, that's your choice and you have no one to blame but yourself. :)

Seriously? Your nonchalance about matters like this is one of the things generally wrecking this great country.

A culture that tolerates, no breezily dismisses, lying, cheating, and the unrepentant stealing of the valorious service of others--just to get ahead or get a good deal--is a culture that ain't got long to live.

Uhhh.... what about a culture that viciously attacks people, tearing them down by bringing up their past mistakes and turning any exaggeration into a national incident.

This is the internet, and it's business. On the internet and in the business world, exaggerations, hype, etc. is all commonplace and none of it should be taken at face value.

The Mac vs. PC commercial I saw on t.v. this morning exaggerated faults to try to tear one down and build up the other, and it was also offensive.

If anyone makes a decision on which knife to buy based on the maker's background, they need to get a life. Make your decisions based on the merits of the product against another product.

Anyone who goes to this much trouble to attack someone's credibility also needs to get a life.

It's a knife, people, relax. Is it any good or not? Move on.

(Now that I think about it, anyone who reads through this whole thread needs to get a life too. :p I read most of the first page, I think page 51 which was the last page at the time, and a couple posts after my first one. I've honestly got MUCH better things to do than worry about whether Mick Strider is "honorable" or not... like look for a good price on the new knife I'm wanting to buy. )

I don't call Michelle a Striderette anymore, no matter what she says about us back at badlands.:D

Since she uses paragraphs, we can't lump her in too readily for a group insult of "those others."

There is nothing quite like reading someone not managing attempted self-indulgent pseudo-intellectualism. :jerkit:
Please, Im asking for more information.
Im not indulgent, and Im not intellectual (You can ask around),

If there have been some statements made that some people find clearly a case of fraud, then I have yet to see them posted on this topic.

If they are posted already on another forum , then toss me a link.

I have an silly little question. That 2002 article states that every Strider is hand ground by Mick or Duane. Now I know that the company has grown since then, but why do they have special "custom" knives that are supposedly ground by Mick and Duane and signed? Who grinds the regulars ones now? And why would a "factory" fixed blade start out at $325 with the kite string handle and go up to $375 with the fiberglass scales?

I don't know the answer but I do know you can buy it or not. Plenty of products can be questioned with regards to their price vs. value. What else are you trying to say other than taking another shot?

Just as an aside, I must admit that I have lived a pretty sheltered life on these forums so far. The hottest things ever get over in the maker's area is when someone questions whether someone elses preferred heat treating method or choice of steel is really all that it is cracked up to be or more often, the standard forged carbon vs. stock removal stainless or flat vs. hollow ground debates. This is a new adventure for me!!!! I'm not sure how I like it and I am particularly not sure about how i feel when I see folks who have never posted on here register just to sling mud for one sideor another. Mr. Strider seems to have been a very polarizing guy long before this thread started up. I prefer to hang ouot with the regular old smiths that I have met whose prime concerns are improving their knives, passing their JS or MS test if they haven't don so alreaqdy, SHARING KNOWLEGE and, for those lucky enough to have one, catching up on their backorder list:D Translated......having fun doing what they love in a drama-free fashion.

I've still yet to get a satisfactory answer as to when it's ok to lie about your military record. Or when it's ok to shit on people who served because you want to excuse your own felony. Or how it's honorable to use that lie to profit.

I'll give it a shot:

It's never o.k. to lie about your military record.

It's not o.k. to shit on people who served because you want to excuse your own felony.

It's not honorable to use that lie to profit.

So how about a satisfactory answer to this:

As a total knife noob who's closest thing to a "tactical" or "combat" knife is a leatherman, and who only came here (again) looking for information on a Sog Trident which I saw a picture of on another forum and I thought it looked cool...

What does any of that have to do with his knives, and why should I not buy them because of any of that (IF it's even true)?

And I'll pre-emptively state that "because it makes him a bad guy" won't cut it. If I based my product buying decisions on the "honor" of the CEO or upper management of the manufacturer, I'd be making my own clothes and living Grizzly Adams style in the mountains.

mchlwise: Thank you for the brutal honesty. That is exactly the answer I was looking for. Though it might not matter to you, it matters to others.

As for his knives, I don't think anyone here is knocking his ability as a knifemaker.

It's interesting to note that there are conflicts in the accounts, just on that page.

"He settled because he could not afford to show the DD214 that had been demanded in discovery. He had already published a redacted and photoshopped forgery of a DD214 with his name on it, in which it was alleged that he had an Honorable" discharge. Clearly, he had not."

We all know he does indeed have an Honorable discharge.

And also:

"This would have been strike four for Mick,"

I was under the impression he was only charged with two felony counts.

NousDefions, I know. Say what you will, but I've tried very hard to make sure the things I claim to be facts, are. Regardless, they are seperate from me. They apparrently were suppossed to put this up 2 years ago.

Earlier in the thread, I stated that through his clever use of lies and half-truths regarding his past and how his military experience uniquely qualified him to design the "ultimate combat knife" Mick Strider has essentially fashioned himself as the new Bo Randall and has been able to charge premium prices for otherwise pretty mundane gear either in part or totally because of this legend he created. The laws of supply and demand gets a bit twisted when the initial demand is based on totally smoke and mirrors. Some may think that his knives are cool and they may, in fact be pretty servicable pieces, but nothing special. Before you start rattling on about his secret heat treat method that Paul Bos does, read some of Kevin Cashen's posts about hea treating. There are no "secrets", only effective methods backedup by scinence and I'm sure that Mr. Bos isn't holding back from his other valued customers :D Strider is able to charge what he does because of his reputation, whihc we now discovered, is, in large part, based on fiction.

Some of the other things from the site I had never heard before, and have never seen evidence of:

"Says he was a Ranger held the rank of E5 when discharged."

"Claims to have been personally awarded a purple heart by the head of the CIA"

Also:

"Possible years of service 1985 thru 1992"

They know his years of service. Why is this on the site?

Lastly:

"I am looking to confirm military service, type of discharge, MOS held, and confirmation if he was in fact a Ranger."

Ummm... none of that was posted yesterday, and all the answers were KNOWN yesterday. It's also nice to see where Kevin McClung fits into all this.

Very strange.
