Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

JTB_5 JTB_5 Joshua the Grizzly G0864 is a seriously nice unit for doing recover work and it won't cost you much more that a HF unit. The variable speed feature is a must imo. Bottom line, I highly recommend getting something with a variable speed feature.

If you'd have told me a year ago that I'd be buying brand new knives and tearing them apart before I even wiped the oil off to mod them I'd have said you were crazy! I got a pin head spinner coming tomorrow so I'm gonna practice with it and once I get the hang of it button up this bone handled 86 coping blade delete. All prepped and ready to beat shut!

free hand with a dremel is probably not the best way to go but when it’s the only way, it’s the only way, I just hope there are no cracks when putting all the pins in. I just need to decide if it will be a single blade or a two blade. It’s a mammoth ivory black jack to go with the ebony one. Can’t wait till it’s done.

Must have the hands of a surgeon! Gonna be one killer pair!

I wish I had a little bit more of the hands of a surgeon, the shield looks kind of amateurish but I’m pretty happy with it so far. 8 grits of sand paper and a little polish I think it’ll look decent. The fluorescent lights are a little harsh on it too right now.

Looks darn good to me! Can’t wait to see it polished up!

Classsssssssy Piece! Beautiful work!!! :thumbsup::eek::eek::eek:

Thanks guys! I’m really happy with it and it’ll probably be the last one I do for myself for a little while, so I think it makes a good break point.
that is gonna wear nicely!
I hope so, after I finished it up I noticed thousands of micro cracks on the surface so I ended up covering the whole thing in thin superglue and re sanding and polishing, it probably wouldn’t have mattered but I didn’t want little chips starting later on.

so we've seen a whole bunch of these 86s chopped up, any plans for constructions of additional knives with the coping/secondary blades soon?

I have the natural micarta scales from one and a couple liners, maybe a two blade ettrick with a pen and coping blade at some point.

Oh, that sounds like it would be a great whittlin' knife! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Finally got time to peen this one together. Still have to grind down the pins and polish but I’m super happy. It took some time but the action is just right and the main blade closes center without rubbing. A win in my book. I’ll post some better pics tomorrow when I finish it.CC7CD5B3-1E28-4585-A8BA-2AC4497EDA12.jpeg 92A6BC56-72C3-4417-89B9-F14BEC722E06.jpeg 442BEDC0-F781-4F63-8C65-B24A8634B66F.jpeg 4BB7ADB5-EF57-4F5B-86F9-8CE35199409D.jpeg 929EBEFC-9646-427D-BAA0-AD548D0D3FA3.jpeg FE3E31A0-74E7-4E49-A03A-E0C25E5130E6.jpeg

I checked but that model was out of stock and still 3x the cost of the one I found. At this point I’m going to dabble and if I get serious I can keep this one as a spare. I tried it out today for the first time but not on metal. I turned a 1x4 into knife for my youngest son. I ran out of light (the great outdoors is my current workshop), but got to something resembling a knife :D
