Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Evan, that #25 barlow has some amazing grain in the ivory!
Great job.

Thanks Phil! I'm especially happy with how the flare at the bottom came out. Adds some bulk to the grip, good for guys like me with big hands.

I removed the pen blade on my GEC #85. I like it a lot better now, and when I find the time I'll make a new knife with the pen blade and it's spring.

Hey SOG, that must disappear in your pocket now. Nice mod!

Thank you. It's nice and thin now, and seeing your modified blades encouraged me to do it.

It looks like you got some nice wood covers going there, Evan. Can't wait to see the finished products.

I posted a shot of this one in the bareheaded jack thread, but it belongs here too. As I said over there, I have not been around in a long time, but I had to stop back by and post a shot of this one Glenn just reworked for me. It was a cheap stamped steel shell knife that he turned into a real beauty with smooth ivory bone.

Good work on that smooth bone.

Glad to see you about Doug, I hope you will often be here.

Regards, Will

Some custom scales on the bench before assembly and hafting. Added some larger bolsters and some easy opens. Giving bronze bolsters a try on some of these, liking the results so far!

Lookin' good! That bronze is going to be real classy.

I had to come back for the follow up! Here are the completed knives from my previous bench shot:

Opinions and criticism welcome!

Evan, you are doing some really cool modification. Looking forward to owning some of your work when the right one comes along.

Phil, in the Lowcountry

I love looking through all these mods. I have to admit, it was hard to put files and sandpaper on a perfectly good knife. Despite the worry, I was pleased with the results and will try some more. On this Moore Maker Trapper I cut a rat tail in the bolsters, filed the Spey into a Spear, and filed a swedge onto both blades.
