Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

One more pic. I just finished and still need to polish the bolsters. It is getting dark.

I removed the pen blade on my GEC #85. I like it a lot better now, and when I find the time I'll make a new knife with the pen blade and it's spring.

That is very cool. I had no idea you could do that!

Nice work on the soddie, Corso! Those will make a nice set.

thanks

first scales mod i've done and I'm pretty pleased - even managed to fix a bit of blade play at the same time

got a Case and a Gec #71 on the desk looking nervious now :D

Well, I finally took the plunge. Several months ago I had an idea to sharpen part of the edge on my Radio knife's caplifter to create a multi-tool, with essentially a coping blade along with the clip and caplifter/driver. It is not professional quality (it was WAY harder to do than I thought!), but it works well. The small size of the worked area made it very difficult to control the angles. I started with a belt sander, but had to switch to hones soon after in order to control the bevels.

My mod in no way effects the use of the caplifter or flathead driver, but still gives me a precision edge for scribing and draw cutting with the tip. Criticism and suggestions gladly accepted.

That's a nice mod, Jeff! Looks handy, and it doesn't take away from the original look.

1930's E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter peanut that originally had black celluloid handles that were cracked and chipped. Replaced them with smooth orange bone ( that's what I thought I was buying anyway).

Nicely done resurrection! Everything looks nice and snug! Nice hafting on the handle too!

Thank you Evan! The blades came out perfectly centered and it has great snap and a nice pull. Fun stuff....course you already know that. :D

Coming from you, that means something! My only concern was the heat treat is probably much softer for the driver/caplifter, so may have to sharpen more often.

Interesting looking pattern. Doesn't look like a typical peanut, but I love what you did with it!

I've been playing around with modifying a few Case Yellow Peanuts.

Made the pen into a wharncliffe on this one:

Turned another one into an "Easy Open"

What's next?

Awesome mods!

What's next? Hmmm.....how about a single?

Very nicely done! What tools did you use? Nice notch for the wharnie too!

Thanks, guys! A single would be cool, but it would involve taking the knife apart. I don't have the tools or skills for that, yet. I do pretty much everything with a K.O. Work Sharp and a Dremel. Plus some hand files and sandpaper.
