Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Very cool Traumkommode! I like the G10 liners, I did a similar duo at Canal Street as a possible production set, but unfortunately we closed up before it made it to production. No liners except for the center in the trapper of course, everything else is straight G10:

That one's mine. And I chose to do it as practice, because Colby, aka lavishmammal lavishmammal sent me a Navy Knife and asked me to do a lambsfooting and an edge thinning. I've done a handful of regrinds, not nearly as many as I've done blade reshapes, but only one ever made it out to the public - it was a Benchmade Proper that someone ended up buying. Anyhow, I wanted practice before working on Cobly's knife. It turned out fine. So when his knife arrived yesterday, I tore open the box and got to work:

I love that satin, and GEC's 440C is really pleasant to grind. It's a worn 120 grit belt, and it does really nice.

I also really love doing these subtle swedges, too.

Pinchable delight.

As I told Colby, I wish I didn't have to send that one back to him...

It looks great Drew!! I look forward to using the crap out of it. I'll give an update when I receive it.

I'd actually leave it as it is! Looks very well suited to it, you just need a brass bead covering over that other pin to settle it.

At first I thought it was an ordinary 15 Clip... how on earth did he grind that down to a L. Foot type I asked myself? And where did the nail nick go...o_O Now I know due to the bail abolition:D don't like them myself, just get in the way of closing a knife..

Nice work, Drew! If you ever want to get rid of yours that you worked on in preparation, you know where to find me!

I agree...bails suck and they are a good way to chip your edge. The older Wenger Delemont Soldiers were bad about that. I have a couple with significant amounts of material missing from the tips.

You know the story on that one, right? Started out as a canvas micarta knife, and I ended up burning the micarta playing around with the color, so then some experiments to fix it left me more and more unsatisfied. Decided to rehandle it, and in the process of goofing something else, ended up just filling the handle and tang/spring area with GFlex - so now it's a fixed blade. Heck of a little carver, too, that handle is a good bit thicker than a normal 15, so it's a nice knife to carry and use. No metal liners, so it's still super light weight.

lavishmammal lavishmammal I agree that you could leave it as is and still be proud of it. I like burl woods and I like burlap micartas, but special colored ones. Emerald or the other green might look really cool. Shadow pattern would look cool. The only suggestion I have is moving the EO notch back towards the pivot end of the knife about 1/16" or so. More meaty area of the blade to grab when opening. I did it on my rehandle before that became fixed, and I liked it a lot.

I've never been a fan of the bulbous spear blade, but I am a big fan of the #56 pattern, so I grabbed a two-blade stag Bird Dog when they came out. I had this mod planned from the beginning, to turn the big spear into more of a drop point, and recut the swedge. It turned out pretty good. Sorry for the indoor pic, it's storming here, but the light I had shows off the mod pretty well. Now to begin the patina.
