Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

I've never been a fan of the bulbous spear blade, but I am a big fan of the #56 pattern, so I grabbed a two-blade stag Bird Dog when they came out. I had this mod planned from the beginning, to turn the big spear into more of a drop point, and recut the swedge. It turned out pretty good. Sorry for the indoor pic, it's storming here, but the light I had shows off the mod pretty well. Now to begin the patina.

Great blade shape, I really like that!

Today I completed the mod to my #81 bull moose. Spear to drop point and clip to sheepfoot.

Thanks, man. Actually, it forms a nice choil right where the index finger sits naturally. Very secure grip.

Nice works, Jeff! The drop point is kinda unique, don't see that too often.

Thanks, tk. I still have another bull moose, in appaloosa bone, that I think I will mod as well.
I'll leave the clip alone and Wharncliffe the spear.

I did a little experiment using this 4 blade Rough Rider Stockman, turning the spey blade into a punch. I was thinking about doing this mod' on a RR sowbelly so I did a practice run on this one first. I will do things a bit differently if I mod' the sowbelly , like do the bevel grind on the same side as the nail nick and try to keep my grind straight.:D

I like that a lot! I would find that blade combo most useful, since I punch more often than I spey. ;)

Been wanting to check out a Corelon sided Case knife for some time - finally found one cheap enough for me to add the full Ratcliffe treatment to it ... actually like the texture of the plastic - it has a nice tactile feel (not slippery), nice and slim:

Wow, where do you get that stuff? Does it come from somewhere outside of the knife world? Google only turns up complete knives with it and not the material by itself. These "personalized" results are getting frustrating.

The knife started life with the corelon sides - I just reshaped one of the muskrat blades into a wharncliffe ... hence the Ratcliffe mod play on words.
