Most Overrated Folder

Never saw a video of this guy, just saw the big glorified hunks of steel sold at an indecent price tag. They seem designed by an angry teenager that played too much Call of Duty or Warhammer 40 000.
But that's also an opinion:).

And to me, Greg Medford, the YouTube persona, is so off-putting. Granted I don't know him personally.

Your screen name is Wade Wilson, but a person with a real life persona like Wade (arrogant smart ass) is off putting to you? Interesting.

Hahahaha I mean, I guess you have a point. But really... Come on. Comparing a comic book character to a real guy... really? I mean, I understand. My username was intended to be purely tongue in cheek. I've always loved the Deadpool stories and just the general idea of the "anti-hero." But we're talking apples and oranges here. And like I said, it's just an opinion. We all got'em. I just knew someone would get their proverbial panties in a twist. But let's try to keep things on topic. :playful:

Huh?! S110V for $110. Need I say more?

It's not "good steel = good knife" for everyone.
But maybe I'm looking at it from European perspective. Wether I look at the retailer or import perspective, I just don't see the value anymore. But that's no biggie anymore, I am not into modern knives anymore so it's no biggie for me. :)

That's totally fair! I have to confess, most traditionals are a terrible value for me because I won't carry those that don't have a tool or two in addition to blade(s). The one in your sig, though, that would get carried. ;)

I'm with you there Wade but what's mind boggling is some of my favorite retailers still sell them even after the deseption has been brought to their attention. :(

Money, Quartermaster has an unbelievable social media following that and generally the room for profit it higher on the Chinese manufactured knives.

That is exactly how to over-extrapolate.

100% agree. And to me, Greg Medford, the YouTube persona, is so off-putting. Granted I don't know him personally. I'm sure I never will, but if he's anything like he portrays himself in his videos, I don't want to. WARNING: This is an opinion. You've been warned.

had to look him up.

hahaha that guy is awesome

he keeps it real.

love him or hate him kind of guy.

For me it has to be the Spyderco Paramilitary 2.

After reading all the "rave" reviews, a lot of people say it's the "best folding knife ever made" I bought one.

Honestly I was thoroughly unimpressed.

The handle is unproportionally large in relation to the blade, it's wide/bulky, uncomfortable, feels cheap or flimsy, jimping is very small and sharp, lending to the fact I feel it's uncomfortable.

I'm sending it back to the retailer for a refund.

This was my first Spyderco purchase and I'm not happy with the aesthetics of any Spyderco, and will most likely never purchase another one.

Of course this is my opinion, and I'm entitled to it!

+1

I had two PM2, both sold, don't ask why I bought it twice.

I'd have to say the PM2 is easily the most overrated knife on this forum, in my opinion. Underwhelming knife with an over-sized handle that makes it bigger in the pocket than it needs to be (it's a big in the pocket as Benchmade 710, a knife with a half inch more blade). Still have no idea why so many folks love this knife.

And like the last time I contributed to one of these threads, I'll be the one to do it again. CRK Sebenza. Great knife, but ...

I've had a few 710's, many PM2's and CRK's.
Okay, the 710 has a longer blade...which I have never needed. Perhaps some do.
The Sebbie is a great knife and I love 'em, but it's about time to put a blade-steel and HT in there that folks will be proud of. I've never been proud of S30V or S35VN, and certainly not at 57-59 hardness...

I believe the newer ones are 59-60.

Anything Medford. I have owned a Medford Praetorian, and it had a host of issues. Lock stick, rough action, and a blade so off center that it rubbed the side. Not acceptable on any knife, let alone one in that price bracket. I considered it a fluke and tried out another one, whch I still have, and while this one is built much better, it's still just not a good knife. Ergos are awful. The whole handle is a hot spot. I'll probably get rid of it one day.

Sebenza. I actually love my Sebenza, so this may seem contradictory, but I stand by it. I don't think the Sebenza design is all that special. Plain titanium that scratches when you look at it funny, steel that doesn't hold an edge much better than far cheaper knives, and thumb studs that aren't comfortable to use. Still I love my Sebenza, because CRK makes their knives perfect. I would love to see them do some collaborations and build some newer designs with the same level of perfection they put out on the Sebenza.

Many custom knives. I think people pay too much money for a knife just because their hero has his name on it. I undersand how the market works, and I don't blame people for charging a fortune if people are willing to pay it, but most of those custom knives I see just ain't worth it, IMO. Not when compared to the quality of many production knives.

Interesting example is Benchmade 320 in comparison with custom from designer.

I think opinel knives are super overrated I get that they are cheap and they have a thin blade stock but that's all they have. A flimsy lock, a pivot area that needs modding out of box to handle moisture soft steel etc.
To be clear I own a #8 and use it and to some degree appreciate it but some people will suggest a opinel for everything on theese forum's saying it's the be all end all 😞
