My experience with Liu Kang

Let's try this again:

Discuss the topic, not each other, or I may decide the thread has run its course with no one really interested in it anymore.

Eh. It has run its course, yes. All the more reason to leave it open for the future, as far as I'm concerned.

What, you think this is the last time someone will have a problem with LK?

Then let them start a thread about their experience, instead of leaving this open for repetitious, generalized ranting. And personal insults from the bystanders.

Well, insurance is like a warranty, unless something actually goes wrong, you can't collect on it. So if something should have gone wrong, I would have paid.

As for everyone, you can make a big list and form a line but not one of them have had a transaction with me and left me negative feedback, they are just followers.

Are you now saying that on every sale you make here on BFs you will personally insure the knife being shipped? Every sale thread now on BFs and the thousands of dollars worth of product, all 100% insured by LK out of his own pocket, no questions asked? Or just those that pay you the extra for the privilege?

since you said you would have paid if something went wrong. why even mention insurance in your for sale threads?

another question. will you start shipping knives in a more responsible way or will you stick with the cheapest (and most dangerous) route. what would you do if a postal employee was cut so badly by a knife you packed so poorly that it cost them their ability to use a hand or finger or worse, their life from bleeding to death? i'm sure they would come back on you for shoddy packaging.

I bought from Dan (Liu Kang) and had an EXCELLENT transaction, and would recommend him to anyone. He wrapped my knife well and shipped very quickly.

Hmm...the packing was all wrong here. When you ship a sharp tool, great care must be taken to protect the blade from moving during the shipping process. Typically, I use a hard plastic insert that is folded along the edge, then I carefully wrap some thick cardboard around the knife/tool and finish off the job with some masking tape. After that, the proper box size should be selected...one that is LARGE enough to carry the item with ease. I also bubble wrap and then insure/track accordingly.

When you spend your hard earned dough on a knife, the blade should be properly packaged. My condor parang bit me when a vendor packed it too tight and without the proper cardboard treatment. I certainly told him about it. Now, I am VERY cautious when opening packages that I know contain cutlery.

With regard to this case, a refund should be issued promptly.

Why keep bitching about if it was lost, if someone got cut, are all purchases insured, blah blah blah. If you don't want to deal with someone, don't deal with them. Maybe it takes some people 20+ pages to decide how they feel. At the end of the day it is buyer beware. If someone doesn't like dealing with someone, don't do any return business.

That's just what I plan to do!:livid:

maybe outside of this forum but here there are rules for sellers and buyers ...

the seller didnt follow rules, buyer has a legit beef, and is advising other members to be careful. He is only trying to forewarn his fellow BF members

The purpose of the FEEDBACK forum is to warn people in advance of possible problems, not tell them not to deal with a problem person after they've been burned.

Why? Because this is a community. For the most part, people here look after each other. We help each other. We take the time, and sometimes the $$$, to look after each other. eBay and the rest of the internet might be caveat emptor, but that doesn't mean this little corner has to be. Buying/selling/trading on BF doesn't have to be a roll of the dice. That's the point of this little sub-forum here. "If someone doesn't like dealing with someone, don't do any return business" could cost a person several hundreds of dollars. A person shouldn't have to bite that bullet and chalk that up to experience.

 100%

I think all of this could have been averted if it weren't for all of the upcharging at the beginning of the transaction.

Here's a hypothetical. If LK is selling a knife for $1000, he until recently would tell you that you need to add 5% for PayPal (Even though this is a direct violation of paypal's terms of service, not to mention completely unethical to turn a profit of an additional 2% on a service that helps the seller more than the buyer). Anyway, that's $50 more. THEN you have to add $20 for shipping, THEN you have to add more for insurance. By the time it's all over, someone buys a knife for $1000 and gets nickel-and-dimed with additional costs of $80 or more, a good portion of which goes directly into LK's pocket.

All he needed to do was ask $1080 for the knife "all included". He gets the same money, but he avoids the reputation of someone who badgers their own clients to "bump" the initial figure lower and his end profit higher.

It's all about perception. And the typical BF buyer perceives that LK is swindling Paypal and overcharges for shipping.

It's insulting. It's unethical. And it turns most people here completely sour.

It's hard to stick up for a guy regarding a small $11 mistake when you see these kinds of practices.

Now, is overcharging for shipping against Bladeforums Rules? No.

Is charging extra if someone pays with paypal against Bladeforums rules? No.

Is asking a person to pay using the "personal" tab on Paypal against Bladeforums rules? No again.

And this is a very serious problem with the Bladeforums exchange in general. It's safe harbor for anyone that wants to violate the rules of Paypal. It's safe harbor for people who want to split profits between the reported cost of a knife and the shipping cost in order to make the knife look less expensive than it is. In short, it's safe harbor for shady people to take root and leach off the unsuspecting and the uninitiated.

im pretty sure if you provide evidence that a person is violating paypals TOS to them they can see them advertising asking for extra and be banned from using said service... i like looking on the exchange but most people overcharge or charge retail (rather get at a store that has a return policy etc at that point) obviously handmades or cutsoms are a diff matter

you do get some great deals on like news or slightly useds... then again theres also the people who like to sell a $175 knife for $350 just because they can.. but any smart individual can just ignore those silly people
