Need to lose some weight....who's with me?

I'm going on the Atkins Diet, the Mediterranean Diet and the South Beach Diet. I serious about this and am hitting it aggressively.

Good for you! That is very ambitious! Good luck and stay motivated!

Ok i'm in :D .... I have been on a diet for 7 weeks now but i still need to loose 25 pounds before Blade.

Lennox, welcome to the fun! Good job on sticking to a diet for almost two months so far. Keep up the good work!

I have an update. I'm three weeks in. I've gone from 195 pounds to...

194.4lbs!

... all right :( so maybe not as much progress as some of you guys. I have the utmost respect for you all.

Well... I have no one else to share this with. None of my friends or family are really interested in fitness. But I need to get it out somewhere. Some accomplishments of mine:
  • squatting 225 pounds
  • bridge/wheel with push ups
  • Pull-ups, and holding myself up with one hand
  • Get my hands flat on the floor standing up with straight legs (hamstring flexibility)
  • Indoor rock climbing up an overhang
  • Jump rope

I still have some things I want to be able to do:
  • Cartwheels
  • Handstands, headstands, all the inverted yoga poses
  • Climb monkey bars. Even though I can hold my own weight with one hand, I've never found monkey bars high enough off the ground for an adult.
  • Jump higher
  • Kick harder
  • Punch faster

These are things I've never done my whole life, even as a kid, when I was presumably more healthy. Yep, I could never even jump rope... Good feelings.

Progress is progress, sir! It's good that you're making goals like those for yourself. Good luck with your future goals, keep up updated. We're definitely here to help celebrate your progress!

Weighing in.

(2-17-14) Starting weight: 199.25 lbs

(2-24-14) weight: 193.5 lbs

(3-3-14) weight: 192.0 lbs

(3-9-14) current weight: 190.5 lbs

Good grief. I'm in my late thirties and losing weight is nowhere near as easy as it was for me in my twenties, or even early thirties.

I use to be able to drop it like it was nothing. I'm almost a month in this time. Walking around starving all of the time because I've cut my portion sizes back to what they should be. A battle everyday to eat healthy without eating the same thing everyday.

I've come to the realization that I'm probably not going to hit my goal weight on my goal day.

On the bright side. My pants don't feel like they're suffocating me any more.

I REALLY want to thank you For starting this "challenge/game/contest" Eric.

It's been a rough few weeks but its worth it.

Lennox,
I've added you to the list. Welcome to the group.

uyotg and Silas,
Keep it up, as Lora said progress is progress. The results may not always show up on the scale.

Silas,
I have to agree with you, it is more difficult for me this time as well. I've lost weight in the past and done so much easier. I'm 43 and the lbs are dropping very quickly. I also am often hungry. A couple of things I do, keep nuts, fruit, yogurt in the house. Have a small serving of those when you want a snack. It doesn't always satisfy but if you stop with a small serving it will usually get you to the next meal.

Hang tough everyone, the results will come.

:D:D

How's everyone hanging in there? I'm pushing myself to run more every day. I'm training for some mud runs after all :D Right now, I'm pushing myself toward completing 10K a day. I've got a little ways to go, but I get closer every day.

I know I post much around here anymore but I figured I would share what helped me lose weight. Last time I was at Blade I was at about 230lbs. In October of 2012 I decided I had to lose some weight.

This is what I looked like then

This is what I look like now at 175 lbs

The biggest thing that helped me was myfitnesspal.com. It is a food tracking and social network for losing weight. The are no fees and nothing to buy, no prescribed diet plan or fad food philosophy. It took me about a year to drop the weight and I still use the site every day. If you check it out look in the "Success Stories" forum, its worth the look there are some folks who have lost huge amounts of weight.

After losing over 50lbs. I feel great!

Just trying to pass along what helped me.

Lennox,
I've added you to the list. Welcome to the group.:D:D

Thanks Eric :D I have completely stopped eating carbohydrates and it's a bit of a hassle but it's really working, i'm only eating fish, beef, salads and carb free vegetables, what surprises me the most about this way of eating is that i seem to have twice the energy now compared to when i was eating carbs.

I'm hanging in there as best i can, only eaten broccoli and fish today :D and have just finished my daily push up, pull up and sit up routine :D

Feb 1, 2014 = 220 lbs
March 14, 2014 = 208

I am with you guys on it being harder the older you get. 15 years ago I would drop 20 - 30 lbs in a week or two for track in college. Now 12 lbs has taken almost a month and a half. I am determined to shed the pounds and be healthier, so I am pressing on. Keep up the good work everyone.

Nick,
Great job. Your updated pic looks great. Good to see you stop in and say "Hi"

I lost another pound last week. Down 11 total. I have to admit I fell off the wagon for 2 days (the temptress- mint oreo's and a box of samoa's), but still lost 1 lb. I'm back to being faithful to my diet so hopefully I can drop a couple this week.

:D:D

Those evil Girl Scouts and their devil cookies came to my door with my order this week. Samoas and Savannah Smiles have found a home in my freezer. It's like they have a little beacon that goes off when people are trying to lose weight.

Slowly but steadily she goes.

Keep it up Silas  I checked the other night, and I'm down another 2lbs. How is everyone else doing?

I worked out today, don't remember my elliptical sucking so much. So I guess this is day 1 for me, lol(a little late). I didn't do anything while I was taking a FINC 331 course, which is my problem. But, now I have at least two months off to focus on the gym.

Well, welcome to the group! The hardest part of the working out is getting started, after you've developed a habit it won't seem to be so bad. Just remember,

It doesn't get easier, You get better!

Continuing to focus on my task. I travel a lot and trying to adapt my program to restaurants has been a challenge. But....I see now, why I was gaining. My challenge on the road...fast food; my challenge at home....too much food, constant opportunity to snack.

2/21.........273 (start weight)
3/1 ..........262
3/21.........255.2 (current)

So I'm curious here, when are you weighing yourselves? How do you prepare for it? I seem to fluctuate a lot over a few days.

I used to weigh myself in the mornings before eating or drinking anything and after my toilet duties thinking it's a good time, but even then I see myself swinging between 192 and 198 from day to day.

I don't watch weight :D but I can proudly tell you that my body fat percentage went from 23% to 11% in 2013. Have a six pack for the first time in my life.

Further I can confirm now out of own experience: abs are built in the kitchen; sugars are more terrible than fat and almost everything contains a shit load of sugars (carbohydrates) bread, pastas and potatoes are full of it, especially don't eat them before you go to bed; vegetables fill up your stomach; eat fruit instead of drinking it, fruit juices contain as much or even more sugar than coca-cola; diet stuff is just as bad; eat something every two/three hours to keep the engine running; drink two liters of water :D

I try to weight myself about once a week, usually around 2 in the afternoon. I have read studies that the body can fluctuate up to 10 lbs a day. I have no idea if that is true or not and it was 15 years ago. My thought is that my true weight is in the middle of the day.
