New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Is anyone else finding that the main blade on the Speaker sits a little proud when it is closed? This is workable for now, but I'll have to file the kick after the first sharpening.

Not as pictured on mine? I will take and post a photo tomorrow. I have found this very close on the whittler.

Hey guys - I got my video up of the whittler. Another video of the clerk coming soon. I also compare to the 61 congress. Thanks in advance for watching!

Received my Tidioute Rust Red Speaker Jack today. rye_a's post made me take a 2nd look, and the main blade on mine is perfectly centered and not proud.

Well, look at that!

Looks good!

I thought was an SFO for the Oregon knife collectors?

That one was a whittler with a similar (but different) laser etc. The Clerk with the "Office Knife" etch is a regular run (smooth bone on the production schedule).

Not an issue on my Speaker Jack, but I've had some GEC's with proud blade tips before, so I know it can be a bit annoying. That one should be pretty easy to remedy by taking just a little off the kick. Some of the proud blades I've had from GEC before were particularly irksome because there wasn't enough space between the edge and the backspring to take anything off the kick. The worst one I have is my Mudbug from last year's run; the tip of the blade sits proud, but I can't take any off the kick because I already have to be careful closing it or the blade raps the backspring. :grumpy: Shouldn't be a problem with your sheepsfoot, though.

Hi Jeff great job on the video. I just wanted to let you know it was the 2013 Blade Forums Knife #13 Congress Jack that was the first version of the #13 and it got the PPP stamp.

I've got an ebony Clerk on it's way, but this Whip looks sweet!

calvinw Thanks for posting that.

I have a whip on reserve in Stag. I think this will be the "nicest" version. Somehow I also ended up with two ebony Speakers and a micarta Whittler. I think because I was concerned I would not get my reserves at CK. I did. Mike and his family do a great job. I feel a GAW coming.

There's something about this pattern that is just very attractive to me.

Yes! I especially like the long wharncliffe and that S shape the congress makes - like a slimmed down swayback.

I just picked up my muslin whittler at the post office. The micarta turned out better than I expected. It has a flaw though, one of the pen blades (the one towards the mark side) doesn't want to close shut on it's own, it has a very weak snap. Has anyone faced the same problem? Is there an easy way to fix it?

^^ flush knife with soap and water , working the soapy knife joints back and forth . Rinse , dry and oil .

Thanks, I'll try it. It's weird because from half stop to fully open it walks nicely, tension when opened is good. Half stop to closed is where it stucks. The other two blades are fine, the main especially.

The Clerk is my favorite of the Congress Series. Beautifully made. Superb fit/finish. Excellent walk/talk.

I collect whittlers so I was glad to get these. GEC did a very good job on an old pattern. One of the best things about GEC is bringing back patterns from the past that haven't seen the light of day in years. Try finding a whittler with sheepsfoot main! Well, besides these ;)

I got the same Clerk - looks great!

Although I do think a Congress should open on both ends, the Whips look nice and clean. I want them all, dammit!

Al, the clerk is gorgeous and your whittler set is superb.

Al,

Great shot of those whittlers. My Lord, that stag version is simply gorgeous. While I am still on the fence in terms of the overall aesthetics of these 13's, there is no denying that one solidly hit the mark.
