New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Received my Clerk in Muslin Micarta today. I could not be more pleased with it. I am hoping to acquire one in stag as a collector and use the micarta.

New arrival yesterday, very nice knife and very pleased to own it.

Nice looking knife, Paul I see they put the secondary blade on the pile side. A little different.

I usually prefer pen in front of the main as well, but main first does look better so there's that.

Smashing in ebony, Paul! That knife looks like a wonderful user with those blades and the length on the main.

Great photos, Paul! I like the ebony, and the lined bolsters, but passed on that one because of the cloud shield. Still, it's a beautiful knife, and you've got a nice ebony and ivory thing going with the 2013 knife. :D

The new #13 looks classy!
Thank you for posting the comparison picture. As I'm not so familiar with the forum knives,
it's always interesting to see some of the porch history.
The bolsters of the 2013 knife look similar to the ones used on the #38 Farmer Jack SFO's?

Thanks for sharing Paul! I convinced myself I was only getting one of the 13s (office knife) but your photos convinced me that I needed the ebony speaker jack too.

I think the long pull sheepsfoot is the perfect blade and length on these. In my opinion of course.

I agree that the Longpull Sheepfoot looks a rare treat, like it a lot and it was a big draw on the original 13 the Forum Knife.

However, I'm not convinced by it on a Wharncliffe blade, for some reason I've never fancied it over the standard crescent nick. This is why I chose the Tidioute Clerk over the Northfield, but I feel I'm going to have to buff those matte bolsters.....:D

Thanks, Will

The 2013 bf knife came out before I started participating here regularly. Since the speaker jack and bf knife are basically the same, but with the secondary flopped to the pile side, can anyone shed light on why the bf knife's pen blade was offset ground? Usually this is done when blades will pass each other in the frame and clearance is needed, but the bf knife had a liner and all the room in the world. Notice the speaker Jack's pen is not off set ground. Any background info would be appreciated.

To allow you to get a better purchase on the main blade. GEC has done the same to other patterns for the same purpose. Some of the 15 barlows come to mind.

To understand, the gap created, allows room for thumbnail to get behind the secondary and into the long pull so the main blade doesn't ride high?

I just took a close look at mine and I think biglmbass hit the nail on the head. It allows better access to that long pull.

Thx biglmbass and Gary. Makes sense and shows how well thought out these knives are prior to production. It's the details, the little things.....

I missed out on the whip, but a clerk is inbound.

I think I'm missing something, ands it could be that I'm just not looking in the correct nooks and crannies, but...

Have been on a diligent lookout for #13 Whip. Except for the reserve system that I missed out on, haven't seen one retail anywhere.

Anyone?

The Facebook page for GEC says that the Tidioute Rust Red Jigged Bone version shipped on March 8, so the others should be forthcoming according to their production schedule.

They should show very soon. GEC's production schedule shows the 13's are all completed.
