New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Just got my ebony Clerk. Like it a lot. But the main blade is barely inside the liner and if I rub my finger across, it gets scratched by the tip. Looks like it'll peek out after a few sharpenings.

Anyone else have this issue?

Can I solve it by just filing the kick?

They should show very soon. GEC's production schedule shows the 13's are all completed.

Special thanks here to "cbr1000"!

Spurred by his comment, I surfed the GEC distributors and found......Drumroll please...

Northfield UN-X-LD Whip, #130117 in Gabon Ebony.

Just ordered minutes ago, so no pictures yet.

Congratulations! I really like this pattern... It feels refined to me if that makes any sense...especially the Ebony. It's a pattern you could pull out at a social event or work without concern of offending anyone, but it's just big enough to get the tasks of modern living done. My guess is these will be sold out within a couple weeks so I'm glad you got what you wanted.

It can Calvin. Just make one pass at a time on the kick with a file. You will probably get it to go down a touch before the closed spring position changes. You can always take more off, you can't put it back.

If I file down the kick, will that lower the spring in the closed position?

With the amount you need to remove you won't notice any change in the spring. I recommend the edge of a fine or extra fine sharpening stone. If you don't have a stone you could use high grit sandpaper.

I'm glad I got a 2013 BF version. Too many vultures to get a picking on these variations.

Nope... It ain't fer sale. NEVAH...

Stag Clerk. Kind of unusual coloration on the smooth parts of the stag. But, it's pretty nicely matched and good character.

Alan On a single-spring knife it's good to have quite thin panel Stag like that . Should be nice in the hand too, I still think they needed a shield on this pattern though...

The P.O,. is leading a merry dance over my Clerk. Got from USA to Europe very quickly in 3 days. Then Cologne Germany to Helsinki Finland (destination country) and for some inexplicable reason the idiots put it back on a plane to Malmö Sweden, then back to Cologne Germany, then Stockholm Sweden and after that it's in transit...Then it has to go through the maw of Helsinki Customs before it comes up here! So near yet so far:grumpy::confused:

Nice one Alan. Totally agree with Will. You don't want fat, chunky stag on a model like that. I think yours looks exactly how I hope mine looks when it arrives.

Sounds like a nice tourist trip Will, but I would've waited until better weather.

Thanks Will. I am very happy with the thickness and matching. I thought the color on the smooth parts was a little odd. Not something I've seen before.

Hard to imagine how something like your PO nightmare happens isn't it? Hang in there man:thumbup:

You're right, it feels great in hand. Very elegant knife. I have a Stag Whip coming too. Not sure now why I bought five of these 13's? But, I sure do like them < maybe that's why?

I have a friend who would love one of the ebony Speakers. I might just give it to him.

GEC factory sharpening has been getting way better... except on this ebony clerk i got. ah well. To the stones i go!

Keep us posted on how that goes! I have two of the Speakers. One was stoopid sharp, the second one, not so much, but very typical.

Me too, Alan, ever since the first drafts were shown!

I'm hoping they come with some more (that might be wishful thinking). I failed to pull the trigger on that at Barry's site. Instead, I end up with two Speakers, a Whittler, a stag Clerk which I'm really liking a lot and now a whip. (see next).
