New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Now that most of the series is out with the exception of the Whip in all the flavors what is your favorite? I do like the elegance of the Wharncliffe blade on the Clerk but the dual spring on the Speak Jack makes the width of the knife feel better in the hand. I'm still torn between the ebony Northfield and muslin micarta. Overall this is a great pattern!!

Will, at least you'll have the most "cultured" clerk out there!

My stag clerk is finally heading my way. I had to have Mike pick the stag for me, so I don't even know what mine looks like!
I've been thinking(that's never good). I wonder if anyone has ever modified a triple lined bolster into a rat tailed bolster? In my mind it seems like it could work, but I've yet to really examine a triple lined knife to see how the spacing would work out. It seems like you could run a circular file using the center line as a guide.
In no way am I insinuating that I am brave enough to give this a try on one of my knives. I've just been thinking about it lately.

If you could only use one, which would it be? I am "pretty sure" I know which one I am picking lol

Thanks Jeff! That was exactly what I was looking for.
And as for which to carry? That's a tough one! The ebony is by far the nicest looking of the bunch. So nice, in fact, that it would be hard to make my self put it to any "dirty" work.

Of the four I picked up, I'd say the nicest is the American Whittler. But my favorite? It's a tough call between the Muslin Micarta Whittler and my dark brown jigged bone Speaker Jack, but I think the Speaker Jack wins out for me. It's certainly seen the most pocket time so far.

My personal favorite is the Speaker Jack in Ebony or Stag. The wrap around spring on the pen blade adds to it's appeal for me...

So finally after all the craziness, I have a muslin whittler, two ebony speakers (don't ask) a stag clerk, an office clerk (on its way) and two stag Whips, (don't ask). Why? I don't know? Let's just say the 13 is my favorite pattern since I've been back in this hobby.

I ended up with 3 # 74's. So, two more than anyone needs?

Something about all those blade configurations on the 13's made me go nuts!

I feel a GAW coming.

You are welcome Erik. Nice when remembering random traditional knife facts pays off lol. I like both for different reasons and it's a hard choice for me. I may actually have to keep and use both!

Very nice collection there Barrett:cool::thumbup:

Does the muslin micarta have texture or is it smooth like linen micarta?

Mine is slightly grippy to the touch, a bit like sandpaper. Its a good texture.

Agreed. It's like a very fine sandpaper. The texture is one of my favorite things about this particular Micarta.

Thanks, Paul! The "Office Knife" Clerk actually has a new home that it'll be heading off to tomorrow, but I figured I'd take a group photo before it took off. :D

lol, you got to save for the 48's, 38, 54's coming up!

Does anyone know the production numbers for the whittlers? Thanks!

I'm guessing the only people that know that is GEC. Sometimes you can figure it out by looking at the in production pictures if they have a card listing the amount. If I recall the American whittler was 100 jigged and 50 black?

Edit: maybe it was 150 and 100

My final count is 1 muslin micarta whittler, 1 micarta speaker jack, 3 jigged speaker jacks, 1 ebony speaker jack, 1 micarta clerk, 1 ebony clerk, and an ebony whip on the way. I'm sure I'll weed a few out once I narrow down exactly which ones I am drawn to. Overall I went a little overboard!
