New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

Two pen blades is not unusual for old knives but it's not really typical either. I think a manicure file or coping blade would be very traditional. A coping blade would be preferable for me.

If the pen is mightier than the sword... then two pen blades must be super powerful.

Oh Jake! You had to say that didn't you:rolleyes: :D

I think? I have reserved an ebony Speaker and a Stag Whip. I actually like the idea of a single blade in this slender design, but that's me:cool:

For me. I don't like red, so I'm kind of glad I went with ebony and stag. If, I get my reservations that is? This has been another tough one for Mike because there has been a lack of information about how many of what type etc.. I think he handled it really well.

Looking forward to these coming out.

I must admit that the whittlers are looking better than I had expected. I reserved one just cus, but I wasn't sure if I would like the final product. The smooth bone SFOs they have pictured are looking SAH-WEET! I figured they would use some extra long sheepsfoot like they used on the 13 forum knife, but it looks shorter to me. I'm not usually a proponent of skimping on blade size when you could have fit something bigger, but I think functionally and aesthetically the whittler would benefit from a slightly stubbier sheepsfoot.

I agree 100% sadsappysucker I ordered a wip that I definitely knew I wanted but also a whittler thinking I might not like the main blade choice but bill makes such a beautiful split back whittler it was worth ordering anyways. Worst case scenario I just sell it on the exchange if I don't like it. But I think I might be keeping both knives lol.

I thought I read somewhere that these #13 Whittlers would only have two springs (not a split back), buy can't find it.
Someone prove me wrong please :(

Ugh, god forbid! But looking at the photo on the previous page, they seem to taper some, don't they?

The previous 13 of course had no blade rub but the 61 congress knives I've had have not had any issues. I've not owned a 62 easy pocket whittler though, not sure if that one rubbed.

But aren't split backs all comprised of two springs? The main blade rides on both springs with each secondary riding on a single spring and a spacer in between the secondaries tapering towards the main.

Wondering if the two blade version will be a single? I did not see any mention of springs, so I am totally guessing here?

Yes you are correct. I should have said that I believe they would not have the tapered wedge which makes the split back. Just two springs similar to the Case Seahorse whittler.

Ah. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to whittlers. I didn't know there were models that didn't taper towards the main.

I see now. I had to look up a video of a seahorse to see what you were talking about.
Now I want a seahorse whittler...

I would be shocked to find out it's a two spring. If it had two full size blades then I could see them using two springs.

Regardless if is a split back or not; I know It will be another great whittler by GEC :)

2013 Blade Forums #13. Not my picture... I wonder if GEC will have a notch on the secondary for this upcoming run.

Are these brass pieces pictured here, the middle part of the splitback. I have a #98 and I'm thinking maybe. I don't really know for sure.

Some of those SFO/Club knives look really special with their shields but the 'basic' Tidioutes are promising too.

Given that it's a Congress type frame, are there split back Congress knives? Not sure. But I can't see how a tapered backspring would work in this frame. The Clerk is what I'm after and I'm still wondering if it can be done as single-spring...why not?
