New GEC #48 with Wharncliffe blade?

That's why the collab is 5-6 times the price! Also, as I just learned today, the very first CB collab was a wharncliffe slimline trapper very similar to this improved 48.

Naw...its 4-5 times the price because it says Case/Bose on it. For instance, look at some of the newer model Congress pattern Case knives that are selling on th "Bay". They are getting $150 for 2005 and up models that are weird colors with those weird little blades and its for one reason only...it says Case on it. Its the collectible market. Most people that get the Case/Bose knives dont use them Im sure.

You're right-- and even if the CB collabs had a lesser steel I think they could still charge a premium because collectors don't care as much. I guess I was trying to say, that one can't expect this #48 to have a higher-end steel and stay under the current pricing. Also, we know that GEC is set in their business model and their steels choice (fine by me.)

In related news, I am going for the jigged bone 48 right now... :D

If only the autumn bone was tidioute with the satin finish blades.

I do have to say that the satin blade finish is one thing I like on Tidioutes over Northfields (as well as the in general simpler designs like non dimpled, non lined, drawn swedges, etc.) Still, I've got my share of Northfields on the way.

I've got a smooth ivory on its way. If I like it, I will probably pick up a Northfield, I just have to decide between the african blackwood and the autumn gold jig..... Sooooo hard to choose!

I will post pics as soon as they come in. Has anyone else received their new 48 yet?? Pics??

The thing I don't like about northfields is the sharp corners on the ends of the swedges. If I have a northfield that is going to see alot of pocket time then ill file and sand down those pointy little corners and make them much softer.

Btw just paid for my blackwood imp trapper :^) Hopefully it gets here by the end of the week yay!

Yep, in 1999. Just a little bigger at 4 1/8" closed. They did a re-issue in 2011 with damascus and dark molasses jigged bone.

I pre-ordered the 48 Northfield in Autumn Bone. I like the way the final result turned out, at least based on the standard pics. I confirmed my pre-order today so it's on the way.

This has got everything I want in a trapper pattern in just the right size. It should also be my final GEC purchase for the foreseeable future, or until they rotate production back to a pattern that interests me.

Hmmm...saw the Bocote but not the Autumn bone...the site can be a bit difficult to navigate if you just want to see what is new...lately anyway.
