New Information Needed on the 2016 Forum Knife!

Now THAT is something I could get behind!!! This is an excellent example of the type of jigging I like. Deep, sharp and above all irregular. As to the worm groove, I really prefer this to the multiple long groove style I've seen on some of the S&M examples shown.

Hear hear!!!!

Wow! Thank you for seeibg this to completion. Worm groove is great, carbon is great, long pulls are great. So I say Aye.

Charlie - Birds of a feather... Thanks for heralding yet another forum knife. If you're in need of any help for labeling art. Count me in.

I agree. This is a nice example of worm groove style i like.

The S&M worm on the later model is hideous. The old one from the 20/30 era is great!
The Cattaragus is nice also. Please use that style jigging.

Charlie, you and the others who have contributed to the prior Forum Knives for no personal gain have been saints. I know that the gentleman who has handled selling and shipping the knives in past years (thank you, Barry!) has understandably questioned his ongoing involvement in the process. Is there someone who has committed to helping with these crucial steps this year?

It seems like the difference between good and mediocre worm groove jigging is much more noticible than the difference between good/bad regular or grizzly jigging. It would be great if we could see an example of what GEC is proposing before finalizing a decision.

Carbon steel, long pull, and worm groove covers... sounds absolutely perfect. Count me in for at least 2!!!! I think a poll for the shield would be a good idea and will this be the first pattern by GEC to have worm groove covers?

Nick, here's an SFO from 2011. I don't know that this jigging was done in-house... may be from Culpepper. As you know, GEC does their jigging in-house now and they have really been taking it up to the next level the last couple of years. I think they can do better than this example... closer to the Cattaraugus I posted previously.

I hope so, because if this is the worm groove that they are going to do I will have to change my vote from yes to no.

gotta agree, the older s and m (heh heh s&m) and cattaraugus versions of WGJ (worm groove jigging) are much more textural, in a very good way. they make me think of bark rather than "termite infested wood". although, it really is worms, or more like grubs that do that in wood. i've some pieces of burr-oak in the shop that are worm grooved, they make interesting bowls on the lathe.
thanks, Neal

A. Worm groove .... YES, if is is the old Cattaraugus style (not the newer wide tunnel type)
B. Long pull ...... It is OK with me
C. Stainless Steel (440C) ....... with its companion acorn (before it is phased out completely by GEC)

I do favor a clip blade too.

Thank you for all of you loving efforts!

GEC is pretty much THE specialists in bone jigging, If Bill is going to do it, he'll do a wonderful job.

Best regards
Robin

I hope that he truly is THE man. The old time Robeson, Schrade, etc were something else!

Here are a couple examples of Robeson's worm groove jigged bone. Charlie (CNoyes) has a lot more examples.

The Cattaraugus wrench knife near the bottom of this photo has Roger's Indian Trail which has a similar worm groove. There's also a worm groove on the Morley plier knife.

Here's another echoing sentiment......

YES to all:
Carbon steel
Long pull
Worm groove

I'm open to any shiled or color but my preference is autumn gold, copperhead or antique yellow.
