LoL and like wise 😊
BTW you've made some good points and explanations . I just felt a few weren't that natural .
Getting ready to open mine up with fingers crossed and will post some pictures shortly .
EDIT: Also on a side note I've been very happy with all of my GEC knives . They've all shown great signs of craftsmanship and are a quality knife 👍

Well just opened the tube to my Beer Barrel BC up and after inspection it's a perfect example . Main blade is about a 4 pull secondary blade a 6 . Walk and talk outstanding . The beer Barrel oak is darker then expected with no strange grain patterns . Very very happy and right on spot " no punt intended 😆" GEC has come threw again for me with another beauty with no spots or funny looking grain patterns that are completely normal of course 👍😆

Okay, just got mine today and I am on the fence. Am I being too picky? I have the light spots on mine from the rays in the oak (typical on quartersawn oak). I sort of like it if I knew this was a keeper but I am on standby for a charred and know I won't keep both. If I don't keep it I am worried the spotting may hurt my chance of resale on this as not everyone will like this look but if I do keep it I kind of like the uniqueness.

Your thoughts?

I think it looks great!
To answer your question, Yes...:D (tongue in cheek)
Someone may want it because it has some character. It may be more valuable than a plain jane one!
I would not count on the standby coming through. It may, or it may not. I just doubt that there will be many "sure" that back out.

Thanks, I have done a lot of woodworking over the years and one of my favorite woods is quartersawn oak so for me it is cool. At least there are enough spots that it is clearly the grain, not a flaw. The pile side is a bit different but I like it.

A second one came today. This one is supposed to be my brother's B-day gift. He doesn't arrive for another two weeks though. So for now it is my carry.

The Beer Barrel that I gave to my brother had very little to none of the quartersawn characteristics, but the one I kept for myself has a couple great streaks on the mark side. Unfortunately, the pile side doesn't. I quite like the quartersawn irregularities. It's a great looking handle material. I did think there would be a bit of the "Charred" look on all of the knives, but I managed to snag one from Mike, so I can't complain.

I had to edit the snot out of this picture to make the streaks show up. They shimmer more than the Draft Beer Acrylic!

I checked a bunch of the gec distributors websites for the charred oak version but didn't see any. Have they started popping up?

I'm sure they'll be rolling in soon 😆

A couple days ago I was belly aching about pre ordering and later GEC coming out with the charred oak. Well today my plain barrel oak arrived and I absolutely love it. It has some quartersawn character which is pretty cool. It almost appears to be dents in the wood but it's completely smooth. Granted if I'd had the choice I would of ordered the charred but I bought mine with the intent for it to be a user and it does look amazing. I am happy with my first GEC purchase and now my search for a user 73 begins. I will post a pic tomorrow.... busy breaking in the cap lifter tonight. :very_drunk::very_drunk:

My beer barrel Oak has arrived, but it was quickly snatched by Mrs. Smith before I even had a chance to look at it. Hidden away and not to be seen until Christmas morning. The anticipation is building as I see these other beer barrel oaks with such interesting quartersawn oak characteristics. Until then, my amber ale jigged bone will have to do the heavy Cap Lifting .:D

I like the light spots too. If the piece were larger you see the beauty of the spots better. Mine has the spots and I am pleased with it. Either/or....both are great!

I think it's just a matter of personal taste . As some have mentioned it gives it originality . I think it looks great and like that there is no grind marks in the light spots but again just my preference. Grind marks in other areas looks good to me .
Enjoy your new BS 👍
