New Run of No. 15s (Beer Scout and Otherwise)

If I'd seen the charred offering first, I might have skipped "regular" barrel oak, but I'm glad I ended up with this one:

I am in the same boat as above. I put in an order for a charred but pleasantly surprised with the "regular" offering

^^ Same here very happy with my natural beer barrel oak but I can hear the charred serialized beer barrel oak calling and would look great in this picture 😊

I have an unfortunate allergy to Beer. So, no interest in the beer scouts. But my opinion on the wood is: it looks like glue. Throughout all the woodworking I've done, if you accidentally get glue on the bare wood and then seal or finish it, it looks lie these spots we're seeing. Just my opinion.
That was my first impression when I first saw the photo but now that I have one in my hand, on this one at least, are the medullary rays in the oak very similar to my antique oak furniture.
I have worked with wood most of my life and know what you mean about the glue though.

My question is are the covers of the charred beer barrel covers actually pieces of the
natural beer barrel that didn't make the cut and then charred to hide the flaws ? Guess it doesn't matter to some but for me it would .

It's my understanding that the charred version is made from the interior side of the the barrel staves, which were charred when the barrel was manufactured.

This might explain the charred beer barrel covers

I'm curious. Why would you think this was even a possibility given the knives, photographs and text from GEC so far?

Is anyone going to carry their charred beer barrel? I really want to but hate to ruin it's possible collectibility. What are others thoughts?

These may be really popular and sell for more on the used market. If this occurrs and let's say these sell for around $140 for an unused example one year from now. That same knife would probably be worth around $110 for a pocket worn version with some minor patina one year for now. I just made up some numbers. My main point is that for the average popular GEC model the user version is not that much less expensive than the collector version. So for me it is almost always a good idea to just go ahead and use the knife if I like it.

Thanks for the input. I don't really think I'll sell it so from what you said, I think I'll have to carry it some.

I had this one with me last night at a wrestling match. My little 88lb novice is still undefeated and getting better.
