Newt Livesay comes through

+1 on a smooth tranaction with Newt. Ordered a couple NRGS's from him and they came within a week. Solid guy and a real gentleman.

I've ordered from Newt Livesay in the past, and it always involved a rather long, drawn-out painful process.

There's a gent named Lee Beene who has a pile of Livesay stuff for sale at the moment, just Google Beene Cutlery and you should find him.

Lee seems to have a steady stream of Livesay knives and if you have to have one, this is about the only way I'd go about it.

Hell, I've had the story of the knife is made, the customer did not want it, and I sent the money that day, then had to wait for 2 months for delivery.

There was also the Uji I had to wait on for six months or so after payment was tendered.

There was the Bow Hunting Buddy I left you a public message to just frigging forget about fixing, just send it back to me since you'd had it for two months with payment.

Oh, and my friend Tim Murray who paid for the Airborne Assault and he had to wait about 8 weeks for delivery of a paid-for knife which was "in hand" at the time of sale.

It's shit like that which makes me disinclined to do business and I have been rather supportive in the past.

It's not as if any of these are exceptionally complicated grinds, they are cut out of bar stock with a bandsaw or a water jet, then given simple grinds and given a parkerized finish.

That step of sharpening was usually left off as well. I have to thank you, since Livesay knives made me a lot better at making things sharp.

Does my experience make me qualified to talk about it? Just asking, since I know we'd not want to get any straightforward information out to the public.

WW is a new member, 2 posts. No worries about where he wants to add to the conversation. I believe the WHAT is a little more valuable, and we do have a search function, which I'm sure will become useful to him shortly.

On the other side of that, any reason we can't merge the Livesay threads?

You mean right now or in the past? How about next week?

Just saw this...been offline for a while. It was a couple months ago, earlier this year. It really was a smooth transaction. Spoke to him on the phone and he told me he'd get them right out. He even shipped before I sent him payment. I only had one experience with Newt but it was positive.

It's a new tactic I'm sure.

Gravitas, Newt has always come back to his basics every time he re-boots. He's a really nice guy, makes a decent knife, though with varying degrees of "sharp" and has a very VERY long and glorious history of fucking customers who have paid in advance for knives only to have them wait for months, in some cases years, in some cases, potentially not getting the knives at all. After a couple years one loses track.

I apologize to anyone who is offended by my terminology here, but I really do not know how to effectively convey the entire experience otherwise.

I am glad your first experience went well. Maybe keep it as Your One Experience and move on in the knowledge you did okay :D

Loan Doctor, also known as Boer Boel Guy, has a long history as well. He also stips to buy from Lee Beene as a safety measure.

Hey Parker, Yeah I guess it's a mixed bag. I don't know Newt personally, just adding my experience with him to keep the record fair. Perhaps I'm the lucky one ;) Anyway, sorry to hear about the trouble you had.

No worries, Big G. The search key will help sort out "fair"

I' one of the customers that he STOLE money from. I paid him for a knife around 8 YEARS agao and have never received anything of a refund. I actually thought his daughter would make it right on another forum but never got anything from her either. I'm glad for those who have receieved their blades, but I choke everytime I read what a "gentleman" he is. I hope to cross his path one dauy and discus the $285 he owes me with * years interest. You could not pay me to take anything from this criminal.

Another Newt Livesay survivor here. Talked to him on the phone. Nice guy, straight shooter, he had an extra RCM knife that someone ordered but didn't pay for.......

So I ordered 4 knives. RCM, Adventure Knife, Air Assault and a Company knife in 154CM.

Then, he ships one knife (RCM which was slightly bent), charges my credit card for 4 knives and sends an invoice for three.

So, I tried to get an invoice for 4 knives and the full amount that was charged but to no avail.

Tried to get a single charge for the one knife shipped (I was willing to keep the RCM even though it was slightly bent, just to keep the money flowing and help him out) and a credit for the 4 knives charged, but that didn't work.

Had to ship the RCM back, and request a chargeback for all 4 knives from him. That of course didn't work. In fact, that resulted in him calling various colorful names and telling me that he will never give any of the money back, ever!!! And that there was nothing that I could do about it!!!

Finally had to file a fraudulent charge on my credit card to get my money back. This resulted in an investigation, that resulted in getting my money back.

Afterwards, I read about other peoples experiences and found that Newt definitely has a bunch of pre-made bullshit stories ( have an extra knife, someone ordered but didn't want later...etc) and a consistent motive.

Bottom line, Newt is a thief!!!!!!!!

Wow! It only takes one or two stories like this for me to blacklist a maker. But all these? I wish more people had access to this information so that sleezebag would be forced to find a new proffession.

Bladeforums shows up on Google searches. I had a guy in Austria find a knife he was looking for and I'd offered it here.

Some people just do not want to look for trouble until it finds them.
