"Nocturnal Defense"

Hankins,
I see that you have apologized for your actions and words. Admitting your wrong does not necessarily equate to not doing wrong. Plainly put, are you going to stop taking orders on these things?

?!?!? I don't like seeing people rip off designs any more than the next guy. Robert, quite frankly, the similarities here are just too many, especially after that "tracker" episode.

You reap what you sow, guy. It was good of you to apologize but you have to deal with the consequences of your actions yourself.

That being said, Eric, to be frank you've got some really simple designs that are are just variations of existing themes. The Chopstix, the F-stix, etc have all been done before by others. This was over the line, to be sure, but I have a feeling this won't be the last time something like this crops up. You may want to make your stuff a bit more "out there" to make them more identifiable - because as is, there isn't much to differentiate them from anything else that comes along.

Appology was made, this issue is over in my book.
Kevin is right.
I will keep it original from now on and a good value for my customers.
I am not going away.

Robert, you make some great knives. I am very happy with the bowie that I bought. Hate to see this sort of stuff happen. Keep up the great work.
Others have been able to get permissions to do limited numbers out of intrest. Perhaps asking would pave the way to explore some designs.

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

What a nut... and they don't even look like good chopsticks...

Do you think they were made for eating? My God that is the name but you wouldnt have known that because you jumped up and started screaming before you knew what was going on.

Probably not wise to ask this question in this thread but I am just starting to make knives and have a question...copying someone is the greatest flattery, I see many makers coping designs, is this not OK as long as you give credit to the one who inspired you?

Breakin' It Down
1)So Robert, Let me make sure I understand. No matter how bad you screw-up all you have to do is apologize and it's over in your book?
O.K. You're a Classless Sneaky Non-Creative Thieving bucket of Condom Drippings and Dumpster Sludge.
Oh BTW I'm sorry and "Yes, You're Right! I feel absolutely no Guilt at all after saying I'm Sorry. You're OK too.....Right?

2)Kevin is almost never right from the posts I've read. I'm not flaming. I truly believe it!

3)You'll keep it original. Sure! I believe you. Why wouldn't I? From what I've seen here, You're a Liar and a Thief.

4) You're not going away? You'll probably be just fine over here but I've got an idea that you're going to be "Persona Non Gratis" over at another site I frequent. Oh Yeah....Almost forgot to mention.....some of the top names in Knifemaking and the Knife Industry spend a fair amount of their time over there as well. You probably were a bit out of your element anyways. Honesty and Integrity is pretty much the rule with most of those guys. Man you just must feel like a Total Dumbass about now. Aw Hell, You're probably used to it. I thought about using the term "Dumber than a bucket of rocks" in my post but then abandoned the idea as I was afraid that you wouldn't understand as you truly must have been the rock that the other rocks made fun of. BTW......I'm Sorry!

Everyone has their own interpration of stuff like that:). PErsonally, I thinking you should give credit to the maker that inspired you, and if youre going to borrow heavly from that fellows design, may be clear it with them:).

But a flat out rip? Naw, thats just not cool.

Robert, I hope you learned from this mistake.

You are far too talented to be wasting time making nails.

Well at least it appears Robert agrees what he did was wrong. I am not saying that makes up for it, but it's the first step. When borrowing another makers design, a heads up to the maker and credit given for the design is ussually the LEAST that is expected. Sometimes financial compensation is also expected for design use. Alittle late for all of that in this case. To frequantly use someone elses design without consent is definatly a no no and it will most likely follow that maker for some time.

If there were some designs out there that I liked and I had the talent to duplicate them (I don't), I might do it, but ONLY for personal use and NEVER for resale.

Timmer, I am not sure where this comment fit in when Kevin is agreeing with a majority of what is being said on this topic including your viewpoint.

(Edited to change the word with to without)

Komodor,
Yes I did learn from my mistake.
My next designs will be mine alone and will be far better.
A fair price will also be maintained.

O.K. bygod no more Bowies , Loveless Droppoints, Moran edge( convex), Sikes spikes etc... When you truly come up with something that has not been done in the last 1000 years then pitch a **** fit but sorry the Ti spike is way over done . Maybe you got the idea from the Ti pen thread from last year on BFC , oh hell I have to be wrong because this idea was ORIGINAL . I really think anything original would be trade marked but then again that is just the little issue of originality rearing its' ugly head again .

Robert , I did not like the tracker issue but this one is not so specific a design as to be original . I am sure you have learned and please keep up your great work just tread a little lighter .

FYI for all involved. Never saw the "Toxic Toys" and was really impressed when this thread led me over to that forum on USN and saw the "toys" available. I had ordered a pair of Robert's "titanium sticks" before knowing the ones Eric had were available. I e-mailed Robert that due to the situation I wanted to cancel my order. He had already cancelled my order and refunded my money, stated he would not be selling these "sticks". This was all within an hour or so of his original post. So at least Robert is not selling the ones that he made. Counts for something I guess:(

A lot of opinions and ethical issues, some resolved, some not...and lots of cool pics!

Spark that was a pretty low blow man... Eric does some VERY original stuff... Dont let the forum competition come into this. THIS was clear cut, and to say Eric's stuff is mostly mainstream, is a stretch to say the least...
