Northwoods #79, a dream come true?

I had a $60 points credit on my account...so that was awesome.

I was able to get #71 giraffe bone. Pretty nice. not my first 5 picks but looks like a good one. I had 3 of the blue ones in my cart and couldn't close fast enough. I had an awesome green and white one in the cart and couldn't close fast enough. Had a denim micarta and couldn't seal the deal. Ended up with #71. Not COLORFUL but a beauty in brown with some nice character. If anyone ends up with a blue or the green and white I'd be interested.

I'm stocked for the free coin. Anyone know what it looks like. Cooper? Or was it the one on the pic? Are they all the same color?

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't even see that.

The "uniqueness" is what makes them interesting. Besides, when you start using it, the color won't matter anymore - it is indeed a very useful pattern, which makes it immensely popular too. :-)

I got one in each of the micartas and couldn't be happier! The picture in the email has a copper coin, the email says they COME WITH EVERY KNIFE! This is awesome, as I love coins in pictures!

Seeing what KSF has done with the Northwoods line after securing it, I am very impressed. A handful of different models, all dominated by a single, chunky, modified wharncliffe blade. Focus on beautiful (almost exotic) handles. Limited runs a couple of times a year and it all adds up to a very successful business model.
The Zulu was a little bit of a departure blade-wise and it seems he ruffled some feathers a bit with that release, but they flew off the shelves.
If you own one, it can quickly become your favorite daily knife. Or they are built for the collector as well. Yesterday's feeding frenzy just solidifies how popular these knives are.
I only own one, a Michigan Jack I bought off the site last year. I was able to look at all the choices over the course of several days and choose one I really liked. That could never happen today.
Kudos to those who got the knife they wanted...there were some real beauties in the bunch!

As I was looking at images last night I tired to figure out how many were posted. Please take this with a grain of salt - not a production total or anything official.. just done out of curiosity.

Quantity posted:
Giraffe 86
Black Camel 74
Mammoth 85

Production total = 500?

Production total = 500?

Who knows.. I didn't include the linen or denim micarta because they don't image them individually so I can't go back to figure it out. I'm guessing you're right... Probably 100 of each. They probably sell some to local customers, hold a couple for possible exchanges or shipping errors, couple employees maybe purchase. Probably just short of 500 ish? When they post the production totals next year we will know. Not that it matters a whole lot, but it is interesting to know.

Only about 400 were received by KnivesShipFree.

Great Eastern Cutlery does not release all the knives at the same time, so there will be some more to come

It is interesting what a small unique party can do to a knife. I lump the "Bohncliffe" blade success in with the Caplifter fad and general Barlow success we are seeing as of late (as started by Charlie's TCs).

Just by adding a bit more material to one bolster these knives have become far more popular than their short bolstered brethren. I have seen Case Barlows from the 70's almost double in price in the last couple years. I give Case a few years to re-release this pattern.

Don't get me wrong: I love the stubby, inefficient, low sharpening life Bohncliffe and jumped on these Freemonts. My Northwoods that have standard blades and the arrowhead shield are still special but I love it when they have the unique blade too. I think what KSF has done with Northwoods is just awesome and I'm just happy to be along for the ride.

One thing i'd love to see is more Burnside Northwoods with Spearpoints... Or maybe a brand new Burnside Clippoint!

Or do not use, as you said a single unreliable media/advertising source with a 30 minute lead time when you cannot meet that notification deadline. This followed a tease on YouTube, and no release time mentioned on this site. Some of us cannot possibly monitor all avenues of communication or media.

Single, unreliable source? I’m sorry.

1. In their weekly email, KSF said “early next week.”
2. The following week, KSF made more than one FB/IG posts stating the exact date/time.
3. KSF posted a video on Youtube stating the exact date/time (sure, AFTER a gag video, but still)
4. KSF sent an email Monday at 3pm, to all those subscribed to their Northwoods Notification list, saying the exact date/time of the drop.
5. Finally, KSF sent a reminder email to everyone on the notification list 30 mins BEFORE the drop on Tuesday (an email which many received minutes after it was sent, but which others received after an hour or so delay--a fact which points the finger at servers outside of KSF's control).

6. And…if you went to the Fremont section last week, looking for the knives, there as a link inviting you to sign up to the notification list

What more are they supposed to do?

Anyway, I thought the mammoth was amazing this run. There were so many beautiful options.
Whoever got this one….congratulations—it’s to die for.

Well put MCar. I thought the dealer did a fantastic job with this release. They gave plenty of notice to those that were interested in purchasing one and as always their individual photos of each knife for sale were top notch. And I agree... that mammoth is amazing.

I work a 6 - 6 shift, leave the house at 5 am and get home at 7 pm so I missed the party completely. I am home today and called KSF about any upcoming releases of the Freemont. Ben told me that the response was totally unexpected, that all but a handful of knives came in - and when the shipment is short it is because some didn't pass quality, that there are a few disappointed souls out there as a few checked out with the same knife at the same moment and there was only one knife to ship (he did not say as to how the tie-break is figured) and that if any of the missing knives show first choice goes to those that lost any tie-break.

Ben also indicated that if KSF does another Freemont it is probably a year out minimum. Oh well.

Big Jim

There will be plenty that will show up on the secondary market. Regretfully, there are some wanna-be knife dealers, who will make a nice profit on them. :-(

I am not sure what happened. We set them to send at 5:30, but they hit some snag at the mail server. It was really frustrating. I am very sorry.

We are not allowed to make those kind of announcements on this site.
