Northwoods #79, a dream come true?

Thanks Derrick for responding. I missed your YouTube followup video stating the actual time. Stuff happens. Thank you for creating the Northwoods line, and I am excited to see what you have in store next!

I read an email this morning reminding me of this very subject. I feel compelled to clarify that the Northwoods brand was created by the late Dave Shirley many years ago. I am sincerely grateful for that email because while I had not forgotten who started it all, it wasn't at the forefront of my mind either.

With that in mind, I think we would all agree that Derrick and his crew at KSF and the knife makers that work with them are doing an absolutely superb job carrying on Dave's legacy.

I work a 6 - 6 shift, leave the house at 5 am and get home at 7 pm so I missed the party completely. I am home today and called KSF about any upcoming releases of the Freemont. Ben told me that the response was totally unexpected, that all but a handful of knives came in - and when the shipment is short it is because some didn't pass quality, that there are a few disappointed souls out there as a few checked out with the same knife at the same moment and there was only one knife to ship (he did not say as to how the tie-break is figured) and that if any of the missing knives show first choice goes to those that lost any tie-break.

Ben also indicated that if KSF does another Freemont it is probably a year out minimum. Oh well.

Big Jim

I am pretty much in the same boat. They should do pre orders....... open books for two weeks.. pay pre order fee or pay in full wait for knife...

Well said and thank you for clarifying.

Doesn't make a difference. The point is there are more people that want the knife than there are knives available. This knife sold out in less than 30 minutes. What will 2 weeks open books matter? The preorder would sell out in 30 minutes as well. Then we will still have people complaining that they didn't get one.

I got several email updates, updates on instagram, updates on BF, updates on their website... they sent out newsletters with information. What else do you what them to do. KSF changed the process this time due to complaints about the Zulu release. Keep complaining and it will be like ordering a TC. Pay sight unseen and have 2 minutes to race to a computer to do it with very limited or no notice at all.

Hopefully the knives arrive soon so we can move on and talk about knives instead of the ordering process... which we are not supposed to be doing anyway.

Time to close off this discussion of the purchasing process.
The forum is for the discussion of the knives, not their purchase.

You miss my point of a pre pay.... order based on the number purchased in the prepay process. 500 people prepay... 500 made.... 650 prepay 650 made... order extra if you want, but if they know the number going in they know the number to purchase from GEC.... I could careless how long it takes to get if I know I am getting the knife I want.

Take your discussion to email or Visitor Message. This is not the place for it. Did you not see the moderator post just prior to yours?

My Fremont arrived at the local Post Office this morning at 5:55. If my 8:30 meeting adjourns early enough I might have to spend my lunch break chasing down the mailman.

I could wait until I get home after work but where's the fun in that!? :D

Rick, I hope your meeting adjourns early enough that you may begin such a worthy quest. Tis an honorable endeavor Sir in which you choose to participate. :D Go get em buddy!:thumbup:
Keep us posted.

Mine knives are currently being fondled by the postman/postperson on their way to my house! I cannot wait!
My wife got a First Class Mail envelope in the mail yesterday and i nearly sang when I saw it thinking it was mine! Luckily I didn't because it was a fabric cover for our baby's car seat...

I'll be sure to post some pictures as soon as possible. I've said it before, but the GEC #79 frame is just about as perfect as they come for me, I'm glad to get this frame from Northwoods this time around!

Happy high anxiety day to those expecting shipments :D I 'would' have loved to camp the KSF website for a Fremont if there was a 'wood' cover option.

Derek this is 2 Northwoods folders in a row without wood cover options. Am I noticing a trend?

No kidding! Mine says expected delivery day is Saturday, but I'm in Northeast Illinois so not terribly far from Escanaba. The knife is also at a postal location in my general area. Will I get it today? Ahh!!! :D

Just a very limited amount of production and I have to choose the most popular handles.

Derrick you guys do a great Job! Thanks for bring out so many cool knives and thanks GEC as well.

I have to agree with Natchez. I can't wait to get my Fremont! This is such a useful pattern and the quality of GEC is awesome.

Mission accomplished! The mailman won't deliver to my house for another 2-3 hours but I chased him down and got my Fremont! I'm sitting at home right now with my Black Micarta Fremont in my hands. It's awesome! I have to get back to work so no pics right now but I'll post some this afternoon.

Oh and by the way folks, the coin is awesome too!

Not a complaint by any means, just curious how you determine what is the most popular? Is it by what sits on the website longer than others?

I personally would have preferred some sort of wood to the camel bone this go-round.
