Northwoods #79, a dream come true?

Just ordered a Camel Bone...been wanting a knife with Camel Bone covers for a while and this #79 is a great design!

This is the knife I have been looking for for a long time. I love the blade design and how it is unfinished where the Northwoods is etched on the blade. The covers on this knife are absolutely stunning. The mammoth ivory makes my mouth water. I am going to have to move a few knives to get one. It looks like Derrick really hit this one out of the park.

Any chance of wood covers in the near future? Fantastic pattern!

I'm with you on this one, Eric. I'd like to see some ebony. Second job is making things more manageable, the trips to the dentist are not.

We will have a few wood covers and a few jogged bone. Just keep your eyes on the site. :)

You've done a good job on this one Derrick. The covers you currently offer on your #79 are very very nice; however, like "EricV", I'm looking for one with wood covers and as you suggested, I'll keep an eye out.

Jogged bone is my favorite.

(These are turning out really well, Derrick-- congrats. :))

The Jogged covers are for the moderately fit among us. We have running covers for the hard core people. Of course the Mammoth are for those of us who are fossilized.

I've been meaning to chime in here, but have been busy. What a great looking knife with a great name! One of the things that I love about Portland is how the names of streets and points of interest are inextricably tied to our shared history. Fremont Street, and the associated bridge, are important parts of the city infrastructure, but just like Burnside is a part of our collective history. Below are a couple of pics that I feel make this subforum a perfect fit for derrick's new Northwoods addition:

John Fremont's story is pretty remarkable, I recommend taking a look at it

and of course here is an old timey pic of what Fremont street used to look like, back when every man had a knife in his pocket:

Great post. Portland has so many cool streets!

Ol' Fremont got around. The county west of where I live is named for him and there's the famous street in Las Vegas with the big screen overhead. Lots of other streets, towns, counties, schools, etc., according to wiki.

Anyone have theirs yet? What's the story? Tell us about it please - first impressions...

First impressions - OK. Pics to come when/if it ever quits raining and I can get some sun. This seems to be all too normal lately. Anyway...

Mine is in Mammoth Ivory. First thing I noticed is that it looks much better in person than in a picture. And I thought the pictures were gorgeous. I can't put it down. The proud blade is very cool, both in appearances and functionality. The finish (and lack of same) really looks great, especially with the Mammoth Ivory. Very easy to pinch to open. No need to use your nail to open, just grab and out it comes. Nice and sharp, comfortable in the hand, perfect size and weight.

I'm impressed. Really impressed.

BTW, when I ordered the Fremont I also ordered a Burnside Jack in Pioneer Bone. Had been on my wish list for awhile. I like this one almost as much as the Fremont. It surprised me as I expected it to be nice but it is truly an outstanding knife as well.

Thanks for the info. When you take pics could you take a side by side comparison of the two?
Thanks again.

Yep, will do. Might not be until Sunday as they are still predicting rain tomorrow and with my camera I need the sun for decent lighting.

You made my day!

Lol! I'm glad. I'll be buying more Northwoods over time as the 3 that I have (also have a light ebony Norfolk) are all exceptional knives. You guys have certainly got my attention. :)

I received mine today as well, also in Mammoth Ivory. The Mammoth looks great and the knife is great, GEC did a good job on it. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. For now i'll post up the KSF picture.
