Just saw this thread. Didn't Derrick post a teaser pic on FB a month or so ago....of a friction folder? I assumed THAT was Steve when I saw GEC update their production schedule.

....but I suppose it could be something coming out later....or maybe it wasn't a friction folder....sure looked like one, though.

My S.W.A.G. is that Steve will be a variation of the 71 .

Harry

The production schedule listed 74 frame (edit - it's not listed as a 74 anymore), spear point, carbon blade, and not an Esky Zulu.

After I saw it was on the 74 frame I asked him if it was more Esky Zulu's (last run was smaller than he anticipated - no stag), and he said it was not.

Hey...I have been a little behind on all my forum stuff.

First off, I am sincerely grateful that people are interested in Northwoods Knives. Ultimately, I get to make knives I want and that is exciting. Let me hit the high points from this thread and if I missed anything, let me know.

Covering a couple topics...

What is the Steve Knife? I called this knife the Steve Knife because Chris kept asking me for a name and would write me and say, "What is this knife's name?" So I named it. It was named after Steve Jobs in hopes of pissing off a bunch of people because I am stealing his name. :) I am not releasing any data on the knife early except that it is a new pattern.

Why do we release knives like we do? I know it frustrates people that we drop all the knives at once, but it is the only way we know of to make it fair. I am very sorry it doesn't fit for everyone. We are working to make that better too...

My marketing. I am appreciative that people like our videos. There are far too many goofy things about me out there. It embarrasses my kids, so I think that is a win.

I don't want to get this knife because... I can appreciate that. Not every knife is for everyone.

What about the knife coming from another manufacturer? It is still in the works. We hit some hurdles, but are making our way through. Bark River is going to make at least one model for us, but we have something else in the works that will be a game changer....hopefully. :)

Thanks again for everyone's interest!
Wierd. They have done the 74, so not sure how that would be a new pattern.
Hard to get excited when you know almost nothing about it.

The production schedule doesn't say Steve is a 74 anymore?

Here's my new GUESS on this...

Derrick said he named the knife Steve because Christine called him to ask what the name was and he didn't know yet. If you follow GEC production schedule you know it's not uncommon to have glitches with the wording every once in awhile. The most recent glitch is Charlies SFO #35 listed as clip with bar shield. My guess is Christine labeled Steve as a 74 because she was working on the DLT 74 SFO production schedule.

Who knows, I surely don't.

Derrick, the master of suspense ( i.e., good marketing). Time for one more cryptic clue, oh Master Derrick. Or maybe I can bribe someone over at GEC? Hmmm.
