Northwoods Bear Lake

Not a Friction Folder? Then by the look of that photo, it must be a Cut Throat/ Straight Razor...:D. Those beard days are numbered, clearly..

Derrick, any news on when "Steve" will go on sale? December is in 5 days.

I was digging through the Northwoods Esky Zulu thread and found this. Not a terribly exciting find, but maybe that surprise knife is the Steve...

I want to answer the questions/criticisms I have seen on the thread...

On packaging... I appreciate that some people would prefer we not include the sheath. Others love that we do. We have to make a choice, so at this time and for the foreseeable future, we do.

Further on packaging... We are working on a surprise knife that will likely have different packaging. That packaging is almost as expensive as the sheaths...

During todays "Ask Derrick anything" Facebook broadcast he said GEC is starting on the new knife now and it may be available in time for Xmas.

I wish he would do that here... I'm not a fan of Facebook because the app wants to take over my phone

It'll be a sowbelly...
Maybe...
I don't know...
I just need answers

It didn't look like a sowbelly from the one photo of him holding it upright with his hand covering most.
It almost looked like a coffin jack.

That being said, if it was a Sowbelly, I would buy at least one of each scale material offered. It is probably my favorite traditional pattern aside from a splitback whittler.

I'm pretty sure that last picture posted on the previous page is a friction folder made by bark River. I think that is Jim Stewart standing next to Derrick. They have stated that the b r folder is in the works also.
So maybe they will have both the Steve and bark river's first ever folder out around the same time?

I think Derrick said this will be a new pattern. There's already been a sowbelly, made by Queen I believe. At any rate, I'm really curious myself. Maybe Derrick would let slip if it's in the rustic series or not? That would save me a lot of email checking..... if they drop them on the website in two batches then I'll probably have a chance. That's the only way I got my Zulu spear.

What Erik said, the picture of Derrick holding a partially covered knife is the prototype Bark River friction folder.

I think the thing that looks like a little 'tab' of a friction folder is actually something on the shelves behind him. It looks almost like a Lannys Clip to me. With angular ends instead of being rounded. Or some kind of shadow pattern in Natural canvas micarta.

The tab observation is intriguing never would have thought of it a background object.

It seems like a lot more than 6 or 7 weeks that we've been talking about a knife nobody has seen.

Looking at the ends of the knife that are visible in the picture above, it may be an entirely new design done in natural micarta.
The protuberance from the upper left corner of the knife is either something on the shelf behind Derek or the knife's radio antenna. That 's it!!! It's a new Radio Knife!!! or a remote control Coffin Jack!!! ;) Definitely something unique to Northwoods knives. Come on Derek spill the beans...

Derrick sure has done a great job with the marketing for this thing. Lots and lots of posts continue to keep the marketing campaign alive. :)

Man, that is really messing with my head. I can see how it could be something on the shelf. There appears to be a wood block on the shelf that looks like it could be the base for a crock stick type of sharpener and maybe the protrusion is one of the sticks. On the other hand, it looks a lot like a friction folder tab.

Whatever the case may be, I don't doubt for a second that Derrick and his crew are getting some good laughs watching us all try to figure it out.:)
